Suspect arrested in armed robbery investigation

BUTLER TOWNSHIP, LUZERNE COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — Police say they have a suspect in custody Thursday afternoon after an armed robbery at an auto repair shop on Wednesday.

Kline Township Police have identified the suspect as 21-year-old Chase Lynn Abbit, currently homeless, but originally from Los Angeles, California.

Butler Township have charged Abbit with receiving stolen property, firearms not to be carried without a license and use/possession of a small amount of marijuana.

Pike County man faces child pornography charges

LEHMAN TOWNSHIP, PIKE COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — A Pike County man has been charged with possession of child sexual abuse material.

26-year-old Alexander Rafaniello of Lehman Township was arrested on multiple child pornography related charges.

Detectives from the Pike County District Attorney's Office received information from the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children that child sexual abuse material had been uploaded to a social media account, according to the press release.

WILKES-BARRE, LUZERNE COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — Police say a man threatened Special Olympics participants at Kirby Park, then later threw fecal matter on the walls of a holding cell.

Officers were called to Kirby Park for a report of a man harassing several people and threatening them with a hammer.

On the scene, police said the victims claimed the man, later identified as Matthew Fisher, 36, of Wilkes-Barre, approached them and a group of people participating in a Special Olympics event held at Kirby Park.

2nd mobile food pantry rolls out to fight food insecurity

BLOOMSBURG, COLUMBIA COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — A community action agency in Columbia County is celebrating its one-year fight against food insecurity with its mobile food pantry.

“For families, when it comes to something with their income that they need to cut, food is always that one thing,” said Sandy Winhofer, self-sufficiency supervisor at Central Susquehanna Opportunities.

But a new pantry on wheels is hitting the streets to fight back.

(WBRE/WYOU) — After days without rain for most of northeastern and central Pennsylvania, things will change on Thursday.

A cold front is moving into western Pennsylvania on Thursday morning, progressing to the east. 

By the afternoon and evening, showers and storms will push from central PA into eastern PA. A few storms may become strong to severe with damaging winds and a few downpours as the main concerns.

Given how dry it's been, the flood threat is very low.

TN man dies in Monroe County motorcycle crash

TOBYHANNA TOWNSHIP, MONROE COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — A Tennessee man is dead after a motorcycle crash in Monroe County.

75-year-old Philip Bramande of Harriman, Tennessee, crashed his motorcycle on I-80 West in Tobyhanna Township on Wednesday, August 20, around 10:30 a.m., according to police.

Police conducting death investigation in Carbon County

Police say Bramande veered off the roadway for unknown reasons. His motorcycle traveled down a grassy embankment when he was thrown off the vehicle and struck a tree.

Alleged drug dealer charged, bust reveals several pounds of weed

HAZLETON, LUZERNE COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — An alleged drug dealer has been arrested after police say a three-month investigation led to the discovery of several pounds of marijuana.

On August 28, the Hazleton Police Department Special Response Team executed a search and arrest warrant at a residence on Peace Street in Hazleton for 22-year-old Sanyel Calzado Berroa.
