'The Office' star stops by the Electric City, gives out sausage

SCRANTON, LACKAWANNA COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — Brian Baumgartner, who played Kevin from The Office was in Scranton on Tuesday.

The actor joined Johnsonville, a Wisconsin-based sausage company, at the Lackawanna County Courthouse to give out fresh-grilled sausage, giving locals a brief break from all the political advertising.

The Scranton-Wilkes Barre area is the most "politically overserved" market in the country with a whopping $81,000,000 in political ad spending.

SCRANTON, LACKAWANNA COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — Construction will soon begin to bring back the Scranton to New York City passenger train.

Millions of dollars in federal funding were announced Tuesday to rehabilitate the tracks and bridges in northeastern Pennsylvania.

The start of construction being announced is a huge deal.

It's taken decades of work to get to this point and now federal funding has secured the train is back on track.

Monroe County DA investigating fraudulent mail-in ballot requests

MONROE COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — Monroe County officials on Tuesday said they identified about 30 irregular mail-in ballots.

Monroe County District Attorney Mike Mancuso announced on Facebook the Monroe County Board of Elections identified about 30 irregular forms after a regular review of Voter Registration/Mail in Ballot Request forms were received in its office.

The irregular forms were segregated and the matter was referred to the Monroe County District Attorney for an investigation, Mancuso explained.

BRODHEADSVILLE, MONROE COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — A federal investigation is underway into political flyers dumped into the trash in Monroe County.

"It was surprising because..one, she shouldn't be dumping here, and two, she had a postal uniform on and postal hat," said Blue Line Security Guard Mike.

Mike is a security guard at the Shop Rite Plaza in Brodheadsville, Monroe County.

He says the mail was dumped last week into this trash can at the end of the parking lot.

Lottery ticket worth $100K sold in Pennsylvania

WAYNE COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — A Pennsylvania Lottery retailer sold a Powerball with Power Play ticket worth $100,000.

A retailer in Wayne County sold a $100,000 Powerball with Power Play ticket for the Monday, October 28 drawing. The ticket matched four white balls drawn, 21-27-32-48-67, and the red Powerball 17 to win $100,000.

Al`s Quick Stop on Main Street in Newfoundland will earn a $500 bonus for selling the winning ticket.

President Biden coming to Scranton Saturday

SCRANTON, LACKAWANNA COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — President Joe Biden is expected to visit Scranton on Saturday, November 2.

According to the White House, Mr. Biden is scheduled to visit the Electric City to participate in "political engagements".

The visit to his hometown comes just days before the 2024 General Election.

Details of the visit have not yet been released.

Fire causes damage to Jenkins Township house

JENKINS TWP., LUZERNE COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — A fire Tuesday morning in Jenkins Township caused damage to a home.

Crews responded to a house fire in the 1200 block of Main Street in Jenkins Township Tuesday morning around 10:00 a.m.

Councilman’s car catches fire after striking deer

Jenkins Twp fire Chief Kosisky stated the three people who lived in the home with two pets have been displaced and assisted by the Red Cross.

Damage can be seen on the second floor of the home and Chief Kosisky said there was a heavy fire in the kitchen area.
