Man charged with firing multiple shots from home

UNION TOWNSHIP, SCHUYLKILL COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — A man has been charged after police say there were multiple shots fired from a home in Schuylkill County.

Around 10:30 a.m. on March 13, police responded to the 500 block of Pattersonville Road in Union Township for a report of a disturbance.

While in route, troopers say a witness told them Paul Kline, 62, Ringtown, fired multiple shots from the porch of the home and also fired the gun once inside the residence.

Resident frustrated about years-long bridge closure

BERWICK, COLUMBIA COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — A new place to appreciate and buy old media is opening Berwick.

Mark Collier is adding a new addition to his business. The Dead Media Room will house more than 5,000 VHS tapes for sale.

"It'll be a throwback to an '80s or '90s video store, lots of neon, over 5,000 VHS tapes".

Collier owns WaXPax Records, a record store in Berwick, and when a space opened up, he saw an opportunity.

"The neighbor moved out and I got the other side of the building and knocked a wall down".

Vehicle on fire closes I-80 exit, entrance ramp

TURBOT TWP., NORTHUMBERLAND COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — PennDOT states a vehicle fire has closed an exit/entrance ramp on Interstate 80.

The following exit/entrance ramps in Turbot Township, Northumberland County are closed:

Interstate 80 West to Route 147 South

Interstate 80 westbound exit ramp (Exit 212A / Route 147 south / Milton) is closed.

A detour using I-180 West (Exit 212B), Exit 1 (Watsontown / McEwensville), I-180 East, Route 147 South.

Setback delays Lackawanna County commissioner replacement process

LACKAWANNA COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — 28/22 News has an update from the court on Commissioner Gaughan's petition to change the process of how former Commissioner Matt McGloin's vacancy gets filled.

The three candidates chosen by the Lackawanna County Democratic Party for the court's consideration were expected to be interviewed Wednesday, but that process is now on hold because of Commissioner Gaughan's petition.

On Wednesday, the court ruled that the Lackawanna County Democratic Party has until April 7 to argue why Commissioner Gaughan's petition should be denied.

Man accused of offering drugs for sex with teen

WILLIAMSPORT, LYCOMING COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — A man is facing charges after police say he gave a 15-year-old weed and requested sexual favors in exchange.

According to the Williamsport Bureau of Police, in the Spring of 2024, Donnell Edwards, 35, was talking with a 15-year-old girl through a messaging app and would send her inappropriate photos.

Funeral arrangements for Scranton FD Lt. Kelly Hopkins

SCRANTON, LACKAWANNA COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — A visitation for Lieutenant Kelly Hopkins of the Scranton Fire Department will be held on Thursday, March 20.

The visitation will last from 3:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at the Edward J. Chomko Funeral Home.

The funeral home is located at 262 Railroad Avenue in Scranton.

A memorial mass for Lt. Hopkins will be held at the Cathedral of Saint Peter located at 315 Wyoming Avenue Scranton on Friday, March 21 at 9:30 a.m.

Man charged with impersonating police officer

HAZLETON, LUZERNE COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — Police say they have charged a man with impersonating an officer to trick a woman about a no trespassing sign.

The Hazleton City Police Department charged Jose Santos, of Sugarloaf, for an incident in January where they say he used a police badge on a woman living in the area of North Pine Street.

Police said Santos pretended to be an officer and told the woman he could arrest her for having a no trespassing sign on her property.

HAZLETON, LUZERNE COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — Two men have been arrested after a drug task force shut down a large-scale fentanyl distribution in Luzerne County, police say.

According to the Hazleton City Police Department, on February 27, multiple detectives executed two search warrants in the 100 block of West 1st Street in Hazleton and the 300 block of 36th Street in Hazle Township.

Police stated two men, 47-year-old Miguel Carrasquillo Apolinaris and 53-year-old Luis Mercado Alicea were arrested and identified as key players of this drug trafficking organization.
