Celebrating Mother's Day at Scranton restaurant

SCRANTON, LACKAWANNA COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — It's a day to pamper mothers all across northeastern and central Pennsylvania. A popular way to do that is to take mom out for a meal.

That is what many families did on Sunday at Cooper's Seafood House. The Scranton-based restaurant hosted a Mother's Day brunch.

An estimated 175 people RSVPed for the event.

The buffet included what proved to be the most favorite item on the menu: A made-to-order omelette.

The most popular seafood choice was crab-stuffed flounder.

Hundreds turn out for Annual Mother's Day Tulip Festival

LEMON TOWNSHIP, WYOMING COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — Honoring mom with a variety of colorful flowers this Mother's Day weekend near Tunkhannock. Hundreds turned out on Sunday at Brown Hill Farms for the annual Mother's Day Tulip Festival.

Five acres were filled with a half-million beautiful tulips as far as the eye could see.

Moms and others who attended were able to pick their own tulips.

Some families helped make memories bloom by capturing the visit with the help of creative photo booths.

Borough officials to hold meeting on flood damage

Lane restrictions, rolling closures announced for I-81 in Luzerne County

LUZERNE COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — There is a traffic alert Sunday night for drivers in part of Luzerne County.

Interstate 81 Northbound will be down to one lane at Exit 155 in Dorrance Township starting Sunday and continuing nightly through Thursday.

Crews will also have rolling stoppages on Meridian Road.

The lane restrictions and closures are to ensure safety while bridge demolition work takes place.

Borough officials to hold meeting on flood damage

HONESDALE, WAYNE COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — Honesdale officials are taking action after this past week's damaging floods. Mayor Derek Williams signed an emergency declaration on Wednesday, the day after the storm hit.

Borough Council will hold a special meeting on Monday to ratify the declaration.

It comes after four inches of rain in just four hours caused flash flooding and severe damage.

DICKSON CITY, LACKAWANNA COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — Three people are in custody in connection with stolen cars and attempted car thefts this weekend near Scranton. The targeted automobiles all have something in common.

People living in Dickson City, where the crimes occurred, told 28/22 News their neighborhood is quiet, and now the car crimes leave them concerned.

Death investigation underway after couple is found dead

BUTLER TOWNSHIP, SCHUYLKILL COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU)— An investigation is underway after an elderly couple was found dead in their home Friday night in Schuylkill County.

According to a Pennsylvania State Police release, troopers called to the unit block of Turnpike Road for two people found dead in their home just after 9:30 p.m. Friday.

New details released in University of Idaho killings

The victims were identified as a 74-year-old female and a 76-year-old male who were found to be husband and wife.
