New event blooms in Wilkes-Barre

WILKES-BARRE, LUZERNE COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — The crowd came out for the Diamond City flower show and vendor market on Public Square. Plants and flowers, handmade goods, and let's not forget the food, were all part of the attraction.

The Back Mountain-based florist, "Florology," sponsored this first-time event.

"I know we have, like, the Fine Arts Fiesta, but we want, we have a great city here, a great square. We want to bring more people out, more small businesses out here," Florology Floral Assistant Mollie Kuhar said.

Honoring soldier with 13th annual memorial 5K

SCRANTON, LACKAWANNA COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — Runners hit the streets of Scranton on Saturday, honoring the memory of a soldier and carrying on a legacy of community giving.

Runners in the 13th Annual Captain James R. Minicozzi Memorial 5K raced through the downtown to help start day two of La Festa Italiana.

More than 200 runners and walkers took off through center city, bibs pinned and crowds cheering along the route.

The Unico Scranton race honors West Scranton native Minicozzi, who helped organize La Festa's first 5K before his death in 2012.

Chugging along in Scranton at Railfest

SCRANTON, LACKAWANNA COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — A big attraction on Labor Day weekend in Scranton is centered on railroad tracks. Railfest at Steamtown National Historic Site is chugging along.

People are packing into the three-day event that started on Friday.

It's not just locals who are checking out the rich railroading history of this region and our nation.

Some train buffs took a road trip to enjoy the experience.

Main Street in Stroudsburg is buzzing with music, food, and crowds as Stroudfest takes over downtown.

The 19th annual celebration is bringing together more than 150 vendors and 16 live performances, turning Labor Day weekend into one big block party.
