Skeletons crawl all over South Abington Township Halloween house

SOUTH ABINGTON TOWNSHIP, LACKAWANNA COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — It's time for our Halloween house of the night, this time in Lackawanna County.

The home on Edgewood Drive in South Abington Township had gargoyles and giant creatures take over the home's yard.

There's even a skeleton with a pet dog.

The yard is also home to the Headless Horsemen, a werewolf, and The Nightmare Before Christmas characters.

Stormwater infrastructure upgrades coming to Scranton

SCRANTON, LACKAWANNA COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — Improvement projects to Lackawanna County's stormwater infrastructure are underway after deadly flooding last year.

Dozens of residents from the Keyser Valley section of Scranton attended a meeting to talk about those improvements at Thursday night's meeting.

The Keyser Valley section of Scranton was one of two neighborhoods impacted by the deadly September 9 flooding.

Scranton looking for new EMS system

SCRANTON, LACKAWANNA COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — For years, a local fire chief has called for a desperate change to his city's EMS system.

He believes without a change, local residents aren't as safe as they could be. But now, after a large study, a new proposal could change that.

Scranton's Fire Chief John Judge wants to be ready in case of any emergency that happens in his community.

He feels that's going to take changing Scranton's current EMS system, and this week was about starting that conversation.

Arrest made, heavy police presence in Courtdale

COURTDALE, LUZERNE COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — Police investigated an incident in Courtdale Thursday night that led to an arrest.

28/22 News was there as police were on the scene at the 100 block of Cooper Street in Courtdale around 10:40 p.m.

According to Chief Duffy of the Courtdale Police Department, a report came in of a stabbing but after further investigation, it was learned it was a self-inflicted injury.

Lackawanna County man charged with rape, assault of children

SCRANTON, LACKAWANNA COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — A Lackawanna County man is facing multiple charges after police say he raped and indecently assaulted two children, with one incident occurring at the Lackawanna County Government Center.

One of the reports of abuse allegedly took place in the bathroom during a visit with the Lackawanna County Office of Youth and Family Services (OYFS.)

We are not naming or identifying the suspect at this time due to the sensitive nature of this investigation.

Police documents reveal multiple allegations of abuse.

Lackawanna County Heritage Trail to expand

LACKAWANNA COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — Work has begun to extend the Lackawanna County Heritage Trail.

The extension will add a quarter of a mile to the trail from Meredith Street to Chestnut Street along Old Plank Road.

Mail-in ballot application deadline approaching

The project also includes a new boat launch, open recreation space, and a new trailhead parking area.

The trail spans nearly 70 miles through four counties.

Work started on October 1 and is expected to be finished by December 1.

Interstate 84 Exit ramp reopens after construction

DUNMORE, LACKAWANNA COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — Drivers, the wait is finally over! After nearly a year of construction, the reconfigured Exit 2 off Interstate 84 to Elmhurst is officially open.

For anyone who's been frustrated the past 11 months with that eight-mile detour to get to Elmhurst from I-84, you can now take the exit you've been missing.

The newly reworked flyover ramp moves Exit 2 from the left side of the highway to the right, making it easier and safer to get onto Route 435.
