Motorcyclist killed in deadly River Street crash

PLAINS TOWNSHIP, LUZERNE COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — A motorcyclist was killed in a crash that closed part of North River Street in Plains Township on Friday.

A Jeep and a motorcycle collided on Friday near the Burger King on North River Street in Plains Township.

Four arrested after trying to run from police on blighted property

The driver of the motorcycle has been transported to the hospital where he was pronounced dead.

Police had closed part of North River Street from the Burger King at Hancock Street to Carey Street.

Lackawanna Commissioners vote for special election

LACKAWANNA COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — The Lackawanna County Board of Elections voted in favor two to zero, with one vote abstained, for a special election to be held to fill the empty Lackawanna County Commissioner position on November 4.

The special election comes after former commissioner Matt McGloin's resignation was accepted in March.

Both Democrats and Republicans can nominate candidates for the special election to place on the ballot for the November 4 election.

DRUMS, LUZERNE COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — Four people were arrested on a blighted property after police say they were wanted on various charges.

Butler Township Police stated the following four people were arrested on Wednesday afternoon, after an investigation was conducted at a blighted property:

John Recklitis, 54, Drums

Ryan Beritcho, 51, is currently homeless

Trista Brotzman, 21, Freeland

Kristopher Lindemuth, 57, is currently homeless

Local man fights to keep rollercoaster up for his family

MOUNT PLEASANT TOWNSHIP, COLUMBIA COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU)— Most people have to take a trip to their local amusement park or fair to ride a roller coaster.

For one man in Columbia County, all it takes is a short walk out his back door.

But after a meeting Thursday night, that may change.

28/22's Avery Nape met with the owner of the coaster and attended that meeting.

Michael Chorba, the owner of that roller coaster is no stranger to amusement rides.

Parents speak out after filing lawsuit against school district

Thursday, the parents spoke in an exclusive interview with 28/22 News Reporter Connor Coar about how the student is dealing with the lawsuit that he is now apart of.

It came as a shock to Page and Nathaniel Woods, their oldest son coming home from school telling them that he had been hurt at school.
