DUI checkpoints set in PA for Labor Day weekend

(WBRE/WYOU) — State police announced DUI checkpoints will be placed on various roadways across the state over the Labor Day weekend.

According to Pennsylvania State Police, sobriety checkpoints and roving patrols aim to deter drinking and driving. Police say they are operating with a "zero-tolerance enforcement policy."

Police say checkpoints will be placed on roadways that are experiencing high rates of DUI-related traffic violations and DUI-related crashes.

The counties participating in the DUI checkpoints are as follows:

Multi-vehicle crash slows traffic on I-81

LUZERNE COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — A multi-vehicle crash on Interstate 81 has slowed traffic down Thursday morning.

The crash occurred on I-81 northbound between 1.2 miles south of Exit 168: Highland Park Boulevard/Wilkes-Barre, from mile markers 167.5 and 168.0

PennDOT says traffic is anticipated to clear up around 12:30 p.m.

LUZERNE COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — PennDOT stated that there will be rolling roadblocks on Interstate 81 northbound in Luzerne County starting Thursday, August 28.

PennDOT says the roadblocks will be located between Exit 151 (Route 80 Junction) and Exit 155 (Dorrance), beginning at 1:00 p.m. on Thursday and continuing until 6:00 a.m. on Friday.

MIDDLETOWN TOWNSHIP, SUSQUEHANNA COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — A man from Susquehanna County faces charges for a fatal ATV crash back in July.

Police say 54-year-old Daryl Parshall of Sayre was the driver of a Can-Am ATV that crashed while traveling on Irish Hill Road in Middletown Township on July 19.

According to the police report, Parshall was unable to navigate a left curve in the road, causing the vehicle to travel off the roadway and roll over several times, coming to rest on its roof.

Man wanted on child endangerment charges

HAZLETON, LUZERNE COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — Police say they are searching for a man wanted on child endangerment charges after an incident involving an 11-year-old.

According to the Hazleton City Police Department, 29-year-old Francisco Henriquez is wanted in connection with an incident that occurred in May.

(WBRE/WYOU) — The FBI's Philadelphia office is investigating multiple armed robberies of armored trucks.

The Federal Bureau of Investigation is looking for information about the robbery of four armored trucks and the attempted robbery of another armored truck in Philadelphia and Cheltenham, between June 26 and August 12.

The FBI reports that two to three unknown suspects have been seen at each of the robberies, armed with a black handgun and AR-style rifles. Detectives said in three of the four robberies, the suspects took the duty weapons of the armored truck drivers.
