Luzerne County contractor accused of $6,000 home improvement fraud

PLYMOUTH TWP., LUZERNE COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — State police report a contractor scammed a man out of over $6,000 during a home improvement fraud scheme in Luzerne County.

In September, Pennsylvania State Police began an investigation into a home improvement fraud in Plymouth Township.

Police say 41-year-old Joshua Muller of Kingston, owner and CEO of A-Team Construction signed a contract and cashed a check for $6,140 from the victim.

Two arrested, retail theft leads to police pursuit

TANNERSVILLE, MONROE COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — Two men have been arrested after they allegedly committed retail theft at the Pocono Premium Outlets and led multiple police agencies on a chase.

On Thursday, October 17 around 2:40 p.m., officers were called to a retail theft at Tommy Hilfiger Outlet in the Pocono Premium Outlets. While searching the parking lot, a witness told officers a suspicious man was next to his car and a blue Mercedes.

Garden Center raises money for diabetes research

FORTY FORT, LUZERNE COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — A local garden center in our area is stepping up to help support and find a cure for type 1 diabetes.

It’s all smiles walking through a haunted corn maze at Edward’s Garden Center in Forty Fort.

The attraction is part of the shop’s kiddie play area that opened last year, where for just nine bucks you can have fall fun but also contribute to research into type one diabetes.

Space heater causes house fire in Throop

THROOP, LACKAWANNA COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — A space heater is blamed for sparking a fire that destroyed a home in Throop Tuesday afternoon. Fire crews say the house is unhabitable.

Fortunately, the homeowners got out safely and no injuries were reported, which is amazing when you consider how quickly the fire spread.

"It was just a lot of fire in a concentrated area here," said Chief Andy Hegedus, Volunteer Hose Company #3, Throop.

The call came in around 10:00 Tuesday morning for flames in the living room of a home on Oleckna Street.
