Western US under tsunami watch after 8.8M quake in Eastern Russia

(KTLA) — An 8.8 magnitude earthquake that occurred in Eastern Russia has prompted a tsunami watch for coastal areas of the western United States.

The quake, according to the U.S. Geological Survey, struck at 4:25 p.m. Pacific Daylight Time at a depth of around 11 miles 80 miles southeast of Petropavlovsk Kamchatka. 

The National Tsunami Warning Center, based in Alaska, issued a tsunami warning for parts of the Alaska Aleutian Islands, and a watch for portions of the West Coast, including California, Oregon, and Washington, and Hawaii.

Death investigation underway in Luzerne County

LUZERNE COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — A death investigation is underway in Luzerne County Tuesday evening.

A body was found around 3:00 p.m. off of Navy Way Road near the airport in Dupont Borough, according to Luzerne County Coroner Dion Fernandes.

The Luzerne County District Attorney's Office, Dupont Police, and Pennsylvania State Police are involved in the investigation. No other details have been given regarding the person who was found.

WILKES-BARRE, LUZERNE COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — First Lieutenant Travis Manion was killed in action 18 years ago fighting for our freedom. On Tuesday, a community workout named in his honor brought people together in Wilkes-Barre.

Pennsylvania State Police and the Travis Manion Foundation teamed up to hold a community workout at Kirby Park in Wilkes-Barre.

The Travis Manion Foundation was named in honor of First Lieutenant Travis Manion, who was killed in action in April 2007.

The foundation aims to help younger generations be more involved in their communities.
