Big changes at Steamtown ahead of busy fall season

SCRANTON, LACKAWANNA COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — It’s officially fall, and the most scenic seat might just be aboard a train, seeing waves of gold and crimson leaves in the mountains.

Making moves at Steamtown National Historic Site, literally. Considered amongst the world’s largest steam locomotives, the Union Pacific "Big Boy" 4012 will be swapping places with the Reading T1 2124 at the park in Scranton.

Memorial service honors fallen York County officers

RED LION, Pa. (WHTM) -- A memorial service was held Thursday afternoon for the three York County police officers killed in an ambush last week.

Detective Mark Baker, Detective Sergeant Cody Becker, and Detective Isaiah Emenhesier were all members of the York County Regional Police Department when they were fatally shot while investigating a stalking complaint in North Codorus Township on September 17.

13 indicted for car theft ring, linked to homicide

SCRANTON, LACKAWANNA COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — 13 people involved with a car theft ring, including vehicles stolen from Scranton, have been indicted and linked to the homicide of a Philadelphia officer, according to the New Jersey Attorney General.

Officials say the theft ring covered multiple states, targeting luxury vehicles and trafficking them to New Jersey to be sold from 2021 to 2024.

Alex Vargas, 27, and Alexi Vargas, 24, of New Jersey, are accused of being the leaders of the operation.

NORTHAMPTON COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — A Pennsylvania district attorney's office is charging two teens after a TikTok challenge involving vehicles left one dead and another severely injured.

The Northampton County District Attorney, Stephen G. Baratta, has approved charges in two separate cases involving drivers who participated in a "dangerous" TikTok challenge.

In the first case, a 17-year-old boy is facing involuntary manslaughter after participating in a TikTok challenge in June.
