Special needs playground launch party held in Dallas

DALLAS, LUZERNE COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — A special needs playground project is in the works thanks to fundraising in Luzerne County.

The Rotary Club of Dallas and the Dallas Intermediate School have teamed up to raise money to build a boundless playground.

A launch party was held Thursday at the Apple Tree Terrace in Dallas to kick off fundraising efforts.

TAYLOR, LACKAWANNA COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — A man has been arrested after police say he's suspected of assaulting a child in Lackawanna County.

Police say they arrested 82-year-old Roy Trivellin on September 26 at his Taylor home after an assault 10 years earlier.

Victim identified after deadly Pittston Twp. fire

Police say Trivellin admitted to the crime where he assaulted a child back in 2014. The victim is now an adult.

Trivellin faces several charges.

AG responds to Luzerne County manager after drop box removal

LUZERNE COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — On Thursday, the Pennsylvania Attorney General is urging Luzerne County's manager to abide by the law regarding a controversial decision to remove mail-in ballot drop boxes.

The decision to remove them came back in September and has been under investigation.

The Attorney General sent a letter Thursday instructing Romilda Crocamo to comply with the law that she can't overrule the Board of Election's decision to keep the drop boxes.

If she does not comply, she could face civil and criminal consequences.

Employees on pause in historic ILA strike

EYEWITNESS NEWS (WBRE/WYOU) — It's been two days since the start of a historic port worker strike. Tens of thousands of employees are on pause, as they fight for their requested conditions.

Delays on products, everything from bananas to auto parts, could be in place if the strike continues.

The International Longshoremen's Association (ILA) is seeking out higher wages from their employer, the United States Maritime Alliance. They also want protections against automation projects, fearing they will take jobs.

Learning with hockey school and STEM game in Wilkes-Barre

WILKES-BARRE, LUZERNE COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — Students from across the region wrapped up a morning of hockey and hands-on learning at the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins' STEM game.

The Penguins took on the Hershey Bears while students explored science and math through hockey-themed activities.

LUZERNE COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — More drug, alcohol, and mental health services are on the way for the children and young adults of Luzerne County.

On Thursday, US Representative Matt Cartwright announced a $730,000 award from the DOJ that will go towards expanding Luzerne County's juvenile wellness court.

Breeze adds service from Wilkes-Barre/Scranton to Fort Myers/Tampa

The funds will be used to help offer more services to the area's children and their families with the hope that it will help them avoid involvement with the juvenile justice system.
