Soldiers carry forward legacy in Wilkes-Barre

WILKES-BARRE, LUZERNE COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — There was a bittersweet event in Wilkes-Barre. After more than a century of service, the 109th has been absorbed by the 28th Division Artillery.

Leaders say it is not the end of a legacy, but the beginning of a new chapter.

Inside the Kingston Armory on Sunday was pride, honor, and history.

The 109th Field Artillery formally cased its colors, and the 28th Division Artillery rolled out its own.

School district says worker's social media compromised

(WBRE/WYOU) — A school district in Luzerne County says one of its employees is not to blame for sensitive political commentary on that worker's social media account.

Wyoming Valley West says the account was compromised.

(WBRE/WYOU) — The assassination of political activist Charlie Kirk is having an impact in northeastern Pennsylvania. Crowds gathered on Sunday in both Scranton and Wilkes-Barre to honor him and call for change.

People who showed up to both events were able to sign a sympathy card for Kirk's family as well as a petition to end political violence.

Roughly 50 people showed up to Courthouse Square in Downtown Scranton to honor someone they admired.

Kirk, the late political activist, was shot and killed at Utah Valley University on Wednesday.
