Young performers hold fundraiser for

DURYEA, LUZERNE COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — A local theater group comprised of young people from our area is getting ready to bring the curtain up on a musical production, never performed in our area.

The youngsters are hosting a fundraiser to keep doors and the curtain calls coming for many more performances.

Republicans lead with voter registration in Luzerne County

LUZERNE COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — Republicans now lead with voter registration in Luzerne County for the first time in over 50 years.

The political landscape is shifting in Luzerne County where for the first time since 1970, republicans now hold the lead in voter registration by just 83 registrations.

It's a historic moment for the republican party in Luzerne County, which hasn't seen a registration advantage since 1970.

Two wanted for alleged Target retail theft

WILKES-BARRE TWP., LUZERNE COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — Two women are wanted after police say they stole from a Target in Luzerne County.

According to the Wilkes-Barre Township Police Department, on September 12 two women entered Target and selected multiple items, including clothing, a luggage accessory, and two pink luggage suitcases.

Police say the two women were seen leaving the store without paying for any of the items causing Target a total loss of $480.94.

According to the Wilkes-Barre City Police Department, on September 21 around 2:00 a.m., officers were called to North Wilkes-Barre Boulevard for a report of a man firing off a handgun near several food trucks.

Standoff leads to officers injured, including suspect

SUNBURY, NORTHUMBERLAND COUNTY — A standoff in Northumberland County has led to three officers getting hurt, according to police.

Police say it all stemmed from an incident on Highland Ave in Sunbury on Thursday, September 19, causing police to respond to a home where authorities say Nathan Lloyd, 37, was allegedly causing a disturbance.

Republican nomination certified for 117th District

EYEWITNESS NEWS (WBRE/WYOU) — After several months of recounts, challenges, and court dates, a winner has finally been called in the primary race for the Republican nomination for the 117th district.

According to the Luzerne County Bureau of Elections, Jamie Walsh has been certified the victor over Mike Cabell. Walsh won the nomination by four votes.

KINGSTON, LUZERNE COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — Police have charged the former president of a Wilkes-Barre nonprofit for allegedly stealing from the organization.

According to the Kingston Police Department, 35-year-old William Corcoran Jr. from Mountain Top has been charged with theft after taking money from Wilkes-Barre Power Inc.
