Officials prepare to fill creek bed sinkhole in Luzerne

LUZERNE BOROUGH, LUZERNE COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — Materials are in place to fix a creek bed sinkhole in Luzerne County.

28/22 News found rocks, sand, and bags of concrete Sunday along Toby Creek below Luzerne Lumber.

Orange spray paint could be seen marking the areas the sinkhole affected.

Alert issued for sewer main break in Central PA

Part of the creek is flowing into the sinkhole, which the Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) says opened in recent days and resulted in water loss.

Residents react to President Zelenskyy's Scranton visit

SCRANTON, LACKAWANNA COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — As you can imagine, there is quite a buzz on the streets of Scranton with a world leader in town.

It was an eventful day in Scranton as Multiple road closures started right at 9:00 a.m. with a heavy police presence, all for Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy to make his way into the Electric City to thank employees at the Scranton Army Ammunition Plant.

Though the traffic patterns may have caused some headaches, folks were excited to know a world leader made a stop in Scranton.

Ukraine's president Volodymyr Zelenskyy visits Scranton ammunition plant

SCRANTON, LACKAWANNA COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — Ukraine President Volodymyr Zelensky visited the Scranton plant that helps manufacture ammunition for his country's war with Russia.

Scranton Army Ammunition Plant has been at the forefront of Ukraine's War with Russia. So much so that President Zelenskyy visited the facility on Sunday to show his appreciation.

In a roughly hour-long tour inside the ammunition plant, President Zelenskyy met with the team of workers churning out 155-millimeter artillery shells for his country's battle with Russia.

Alert issued for sewer main break in Central PA

EYEWITNESS NEWS (WBRE/WYOU) — Officials have issued a civil authority for a local area emergency in Snyder and Union counties.

A civil authority has been issued due to a broken sewer main and all residents of Shamokin Dam Borough, Monroe Township, Penn Township, and Selinsgrove Borough are requested to limit their use of water until repairs are made.

37-year-old woman reported missing in Tunkhannock Twp.

Officials note there is no estimated time of repair at this time.

Former police chief found guilty of indecent assault

EYEWITNESS NEWS (WBRE/WYOU) — The Monroe County District Attorney has announced that former Police Chief Todd Alan Graeff of Manor Township, in Lancaster County, has been found guilty of an incident that occurred at a resort in the Poconos.

According to D.A. Mike Mancuso, the incident occurred in July of 2022 at Kalahari Resort where Graeff was attending a police chief conference and the victim stated he inappropriately touched her on the water slide.

37-year-old woman reported missing in Tunkhannock Twp.

TUNKHANNOCK TWP., WYOMING COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — A woman has been reported missing in Wyoming County.

According to the Tunkhannock Township Police, they are attempting to locate 37-year-old Misty Sanouvong.

Police say she was last seen leaving the Highland Campground on Old Mill Road in Falls Township at approximately 11:15 p.m. on September 21.

Man charged with attempting to defraud bank of over $194K

Sanouvong may be suffering from a medical condition and an extensive search is underway in the area, as stated by police.

4th annual NEPA Girls in Aviation Day

FORTY-FORT, LUZERNE COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — Girls with a passion for aviation got a hands-on experience Saturday to inspire them to soar high.

They gathered at the Wyoming Valley Airport for the fourth annual NEPA Girls in Aviation Day.

More than 60 girls participated in various learning stations including a state police helicopter, an air traffic control station, and a flight simulator.

The event aims to promote opportunities to girls who may be interested in one day pursuing a career in aviation and aeronautics.
