(WBRE/WYOU) — The investigation into the murder of political activist Charlie Kirk is intensifying.

The FBI released a photo of a person of interest. The I-Team's Andy Mehalshick speaks with a longtime prosecutor about the case and challenges investigators are facing.

Two dead after helicopter crash near Jim Thorpe

CARBON COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — The Carbon County Coroner has confirmed two people are dead after a helicopter crash.

According to the Carbon County Communication Center, units were headed to the wooded area near the 300 block of Maury Road near Penn's Peak for an aircraft down.

Officials say the helicopter crash involved a helicopter that was doing linework, but did not know exactly what they were doing.

SCRANTON, LACKAWANNA COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — The Lackawanna Coroner has identified the victim who was killed in what the district attorney called an inmate-on-inmate assault.

45-year-old Lackawanna County Prison inmate Michael Jones died as a result of blunt head trauma and his death has been ruled a homicide, according to the Lackawanna County Coroner.

HAZLETON, LUZERNE COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — A Hazleton police officer was arrested on Sunday, according to the Hazleton City Police Department.

Officials say the officer was arrested for public drunkenness at the Hershey Arena on Sunday while the officer was off duty.

Five arrested, drug-dealing operation shut down

Hazleton City Police say an internal investigation is currently underway regarding the incident.

The police officer's name has not been released at this time.

'Hoax threats' against HBCUs on Thursday, FBI says

CHESTERFIELD COUNTY, Va. (WRIC/NEXSTAR) – Several historically Black colleges and universities (HBCUs) were locked down Thursday after reports of campus safety threats — though these would turn out to be "hoaxes," according to the FBI, the situations caused major disruptions.

Those schools were Virginia State University in Ettrick, Virginia; Hampton University in Hampton, Virginia; Southern University and A&M College in Baton Rouge, Louisiana; Bethune-Cookman University in Daytona Beach, Florida; Clark Atlanta University in Georgia, and Alabama State University in Montgomery.

Driver possibly charged with DUI after three-car crash

HAZLETON, LUZERNE COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — A crash involving three cars may lead to a driver facing DUI charges.

On September 10, around 2:30 a.m., officers were called to a crash in the 500 block of West Maple Street in Hazleton.

Police stated an Infiniti was traveling on Maple Street, drove onto the sidewalk, knocked over a "no parking" sign, then struck two parked cars and the side of a house. The Infiniti then got pinned between one of the cars and the house.
