Lawmakers propose moving funds for violence prevention efforts

SCRANTON, LACKAWANNA COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — More than a month after Scranton Police Detective Kyle Gilmartin was shot twice in the line of duty, local lawmakers have proposed re-allocating nearly $600,000 in federal funding for violence prevention efforts.

The City of Scranton is currently working with a consultant to develop a more strategic approach to fight gang and youth violence by using resources and services.

Scranton officials have been studying violence intervention programs across the Commonwealth.

WILKES-BARRE, LUZERNE COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — For local fast food fans, many say they're thinking twice about ordering, with some even saying prices are just simply getting out of control.

Airlines jack up the prices during the holidays, Uber increases their prices on the weekends, and now fast-food restaurants could be next.

"I think that Wendy's should stick to the prices they have now I realize things are going up when they go up and they need to raise their prices, but I don't like the surge pricing thing," said Dallas resident Jeanne Olivieri.

Death investigation launched in Wilkes-Barre

WILKES-BARRE, LUZERNE COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — A death investigation is underway Tuesday after a body was found in an abandoned home.

Heavy police presence was seen Tuesday evening in Wilkes-Barre along the 100 block of Carlisle Street.

28/22 News had crews on scene and police officers told us that they were there for a death investigation.

Wilkes-Barre Police and Pennsylvania State Police lined the street as they headed their investigation at a home on Carlisle Street.

Puppy found after reported theft in Edwardsville

EDWARDSVILLE, LUZERNE COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — Authorities announced on Facebook a puppy stolen on Tuesday in Edwardsville has been found by police.

Police were on the lookout for three suspects after they allegedly stole a puppy in Edwardsville.

The Edwardsville Police reported in a post on Facebook Tuesday they were looking for three people in the alleged theft of a Shetland Sheepdog puppy from Puppies and More in Edwardsville around 5:30 p.m. Tuesday night.
