Pocono Wildlife Sanctuary celebrates Groundhog Day

STROUDSBURG, MONROE COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU)— Move over Punxsutawney Phil, you're not the only groundhog participating in Groundhog Day!

28/22 News reporter Sydney Kostus stopped by a wildlife sanctuary in the Poconos that's using the special day to spread awareness about the importance of the species here in the Keystone State.

Man sentenced to 70 months in prison for drug trafficking

SCRANTON, LACKAWANNA COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU)— A federal court has sentenced a man to nearly six years in prison for trafficking methamphetamine through Schuylkill County.

U.S. Attorney Gerard M. Karam said 52-year-old Javier Guzman, from Pottsville, was sentenced to 70 months for possession with intent to distribute crystal methamphetamine.

PUNXSUTAWNEY, Pa. (WTAJ) — Each year Punxsutawney Phil predicts whether there will there be six more weeks of winter or early spring when he emerges from Gobbler's Knob on Groundhog Day.

It's official, Punxsutawney Phil did not see his shadow! This means spring is expected to come early in 2024.

Punxsutawney Groundhog Club President, Tom Dunkel estimated over 35,000 people and as many as 40,000 attended this year's event.

Governor Josh Shapiro named Phil the "Official meteorologist of Pennsylvania."
