WILKES-BARRE, LUZERNE COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — You did not need to run or walk to take part in a 5K event in Downtown Wilkes-Barre. The Graham Academy hosted what was billed as Rock Around the Block. It featured live music, food, and fun activities on Public Square.
The Graham Academy offers special education to children living with autism or behavioral challenges.
People there today say raising awareness is important.

PLAINS TOWNSHIP, LUZERNE COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — A community-run event in Plains Township brought runners together on Sunday for a meaningful cause. Rick's Fun Run held its sixth annual charity event at the Birchwood Pavilion.
For the last three years, the organization has selected a local community member in need to help.
This year's run supports 71-year-old Charlie Lepore, a lifelong Plains resident fighting stage four non-Hodgkin's lymphoma.
College students give kids with disabilities new set of wheels

SCRANTON, LACKAWANNA COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — Local college students are giving children with disabilities a new set of wheels and new independence in Lackawanna County. Sunday was the second annual Go Baby Go community day at the University of Scranton's Byron Center.
Students unveiled custom-made cars designed specifically for nine local children with mobility challenges.
Each vehicle is uniquely adapted to help kids move freely and safely.
Veterans getting helping hand thanks to outreach effort

(WBRE/WYOU) — The National Weather Service (NWS) announced on Sunday that several counties are under flash flood warnings.
The NWS issued a flood warning for the following counties until 10:30 p.m. Sunday night:
Lackawanna County
Susquehanna County
Wayne County
According to the NWS, Doppler radar indicated heavy rain across the affected areas, with 1.5 and 2.5 inches of rain already fallen.
The NWS warns residents to take proper precautions when encountering an area experiencing flash flooding by turning around and to not drown.

Organizers say the goal was to provide food, resources, and services for veterans in need, at-risk individuals, and families.

Parker Street between North Main Avenue and Boulevard Avenue will be closed.
Crews searching in Susquehanna river for missing 10 year old
The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) crews plan to finish paving.
The work is part of the Parker Street Bridge reconstruction project.
A detour will be set up for drivers for the work, which PennDOT says will take about two weeks.
