New life brought to old Scranton theater

SCRANTON, LACKAWANNA COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — New life has been brought into an old theater in Downtown Scranton. It's been almost a year since new owners took over the centuries-old building and they are celebrating by giving back to the community.

A new marquee hangs above the entrance to the Ritz Theater on Wyoming Avenue in Downtown Scranton.

Since the new owner, Jim Olecki, and his partner bought the building in December of 2023, nearly $1,000,000 in renovations have been done to this 117-year-old building. The 500-seat theater was also renovated.

An employee from a McDonald's in Altoona reportedly called the police after recognizing Mangione, but there is some protocol in place before this person will be paid out.

Stuff the Bus for local kids raises thousands of toys, dollars

WILKES-BARRE, LUZERNE COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — The holiday season is getting even merrier for local children in need.

Luzerne County Transportation Authority (LCTA) held its 10th Annual Stuff the Bus event over the weekend for the Marine Corps Reserve's Toys for Tots Drive.

This year, they set up shop at the Pittston Walmart to collect new toys, games, and even cash for area children.

LCTA collected more than 2,000 toys and raised more than $7,000 dollars during this year's event.

The World Food Championships is the ultimate food sports event in Indianapolis. Hundreds of the world's best chefs competed for food, fame, and fortune in the twelve-category event.

Scranton's own Chef Ryan Von Smith competed in the rice category and served up a delicious duck dish to take the title.
