Police investigating shooting at local park

HAZLETON, LUZERNE COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU)— Police are investigating a reported shooting Thursday evening in Hazleton.

According to the Hazleton City Police Department, officers were called to the Beech Street Playground for a report of gunshots followed by people screaming at 5:30 p.m.

When officers arrived, witnesses informed policer that the victim had been transported by a private vehicle, treated, and released for non-life threatening injuries.

Firefighter saves cat from burning house

COAL TOWNSHIP, NORTHUMBERLAND COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU)— Crews are on-scene of a fire in Northumberland County that started Thursday evening.

According to Northumberland County Communications Center, crews were called the scene for a reported structure fire on the 1600 block of Mohawk Street just before 7:00 p.m.

It is unknown at this time if there were any injuries.

Shoprite honored for raising thousands to fight hunger

BRODHEADSVILLE, MONROE COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU)— The ShopRite of Brodheadsville in the Poconos is being honored for raising thousands to fight hunger as part of the annual ShopRite partners in Caring Cheerios Contest.

They raised over $48,000 and ranked among the top five fundraising stores.

CHESNUTHILL TOWNSHIP, MONROE COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU)— A new shared emergency services facility opened up in Chestnuthill Township.

It houses the West End Fire Company, Lehigh Valley Health Network EMS Ambulance Service, and Chestnuthill Township Emergency Operations.

This new facility was ten years in the making and is necessary to coincide with the growth of the community and its needs.

Pop-up shop returns to Monroe County

GILBERT, MONROE COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU)— A Pop-up shop in Monroe County was packed with shoppers.

The West End Fairgrounds hosted the event for the Just Between Friends Pocono's Pop-up.

It's a consignment shop with items for children of all ages that has grown in popularity due to its incredible low prices.

More than 200 vendors with products including clothes, shoes, toys, and books.

Even though this is for children of all ages, most of the customers are there for the youngest age group.

Local medical organizations come together for Wellness Day

WILKES-BARRE, LUZERNE COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU)— Today is a beautiful day to be outside and an even better day to focus on wellness.

Several non profits, local universities, and hospitals came together on Public Square in downtown Wilkes-Barre to hold a Wellness Fair.

Doctors, dentists, and clinical experts there performed consultations, vaccinations, and screenings.
