Man allegedly shoots at neighbor's house 5 times

LAFLIN BOROUGH, LUZERNE COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — Police say a man admitted to shooting at his neighbor's house and car five times on Monday.

According to police, 73-year-old Robert Nasternak fired five shots at his neighbor's house in Laflin Borough Monday morning.

According to the affidavit, Nasternak said, "I had a dream where those people wanted to hurt me, so I woke up, went to my garage, and fired five shots."

Police say they observed bullet holes in the car and the garage door.

Police arrest teen for alleged Snapchat murder plot

PLYMOUTH, LUZERNE COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — A Luzerne County man is locked up on Tuesday, charged with allegedly trying to recruit a 13-year-old to carry out a mass killing.

Plymouth Police say 18-year-old Riley Young, from Plymouth, used the social media app Snapchat to recruit the boy, as well as others, to kill people he says "wronged him."

Investigators tell 28/22 News that Young was bold and brazen and used Snapchat as part of his plan to kill people, and they believe he might have carried it out if not for a person involved in that Snapchat contacting police.

Penn State Board of Trustees removes member, preventing reelection

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. (WTAJ) — After months of legal battle, the majority of the Penn State Board of Trustees voted to remove one of its members two weeks before the end of his term.

The board voted 30-4 in a special meeting Monday, June 16, to remove Barry Fenchak from the trustees. According to the trustee bylaws, being voted out now renders Fenchak ineligible to "stand for election or serve again as a Trustee; such prohibition is to be permanent."

Truck crashes into credit union lobby in Scranton

SCRANTON, LACKAWANNA COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — A credit union in Scranton is closed until further notice after a truck crashed through the front doors and into its lobby Tuesday morning.

Crews were called to the Penn East Federal Credit Union in the 700 block of Davis Street just before 10:00 a.m. for a report of a truck in the lobby.

A representative for the credit union told 28/22 News that employees were in the building when the crash occurred, but was unsure if any customers were inside at the time. No one inside was injured.
