PennDOT issues speed restrictions amid winter advisory

EYEWITNESS NEWS (WBRE/WYOU) — The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) announced temporary restrictions to the speed limit on several roads in Pennsylvania.

PennDOT is urging drivers to avoid unnecessary travel, but if they must head out, they'll see speeds reduced to 45 miles per hour on the following highways:

Interstate 80 between Exit 101 (Dubois / Penfield / Route 255) in Clearfield County and Exit 210A (Route 15 / Lewisburg) in Union County

15 displaced in Wilkes-Barre fire

WILKES-BARRE, LUZERNE COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — The Wilkes-Barre City Fire Department says 15 people are displaced after a fire Sunday afternoon.

Authorities say the Wilkes-Barre City Fire Department was called around 4:00 p.m. on Sunday to a house fire on Carey Avenue.

Tables filled in Pittston City for 10th Annual Christmas Cookie Walk

PITTSTON CITY, LUZERNE COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — Both sides of the table were crowded with people in Pittston filling take-out containers with a variety of homemade cookies.

The 10th Annual Christmas Cookie Walk was held at St. Michael's Byzantine Catholic Church in Pittston.

Baked by local residents, pepper, peanut butter, and chocolate chip were just a few of the cookies to choose from, and if they didn't fill you up enough, people took a chance on winning gift cards, purchasing holiday gifts, and sipping hot chocolate.

SCRANTON, LACKAWANNA COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — Families' hearts and bellies are full in Lackawanna County after a delicious breakfast with Santa.

Montage Mountain hosted its annual Breakfast with Santa on Sunday morning at the resort's lodge.

The event featured a full breakfast spread, coffee, and hot chocolate.

Santa posed for photos with the kids while giving them a chance to share their Christmas wishes.

SCRANTON, LACKAWANNA COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — Christmas is a little brighter for struggling kids this year in Lackawanna County.

The annual Gifts for Kids distribution started Sunday at the Byron Recreation Complex in Scranton.

Families could be seen lining up picking gifts from books to toys to winter clothes.

Half of the gifts were donated by the community while the other half from Toys for Tots drives.

Preparing for more snowy weather in Pittston Township

PITTSTON TOWNSHIP, LUZERNE COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — PennDOT has crews out across the area helping aid in the preparation for this evening's snowfall.

Workers at the salt storage shed in Pittston Township say they are geared up and prepared for more snowy weather of the season.

PennDOT began sending dozens of trucks out onto the road earlier Sunday afternoon.

Crews at the salt shed say they are following their typical procedures in preventing the snow and ice from sticking to the roads.

Winter advisory in place overnight as temperatures drop

NWS issues winter advisory, rain, sleet, snow expected to fall

EYEWITNESS NEWS (WBRE/WYOU) — Officials say all of Northeastern Pennsylvania is under a winter advisory from Sunday into Monday morning.

The National Weather Service (NWS) announced a Winter Advisory will be in place for all of North Eastern Pennsylvania from 4:00 p.m. Sunday until 10:00 a.m. Monday.

The advisory is in place in the following counties.

Bradford

Carbon

Clinton

Columbia

Lackawanna

Lehigh

Luzerne

Lycoming

Monroe

Montour

Northumberland

Pike

Schuylkill

Snyder
