(NEXSTAR) – Charlie Kirk, a longtime ally of President Donald Trump and the co-founder of conservative youth organization Turning Point USA, was fatally shot Wednesday during a college event in Orem, Utah.
A video that circulated on social media shows Kirk, sitting with a microphone in hand under a tent with the slogan "Prove Me Wrong," speaking to a large audience when a single shot can be heard. Kirk reaches up with his right hand as blood shoots from the left side of his neck. He was rushed into a nearby vehicle, video showed, and taken to the hospital in critical condition.

The assassination of conservative activist Charlie Kirk sent a shockwave through the American conservative movement on Wednesday, with his sudden and public death eliciting emotional reactions from some of the country’s most prominent figures on the right.
Kirk, a leading firebrand in conservative media and right-wing activism, was shot in the neck on the campus of Utah Valley University while speaking to a large crowd during an event billed as “The American Comeback Tour.”

(WBRE/WYOU) — The former business manager of the Ritz Theater in Scranton, accused of stealing over $74,000 from the business, pled not guilty to the charges on Wednesday.
48-year-old James Olecki of Clarks Summit was arrested in March for allegedly using a company credit card for unauthorized CashApp payments. However, Olecki maintains his innocence.

In a press release, Olecki's lawyer called the charges a "smear campaign" by Ritz Theater owner Joshua Balz.

SCRANTON, LACKAWANNA COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU)— A court hearing was held at the Lackawanna County Courthouse to hear arguments from both sides regarding the empty commissioner's seat.

A three-judge panel listened to arguments from the Lackawanna County Democratic Committee and the Board of Elections.
The Democratic Committee is looking to appoint Brenda Sacco to fill out the remainder of the term.
This comes after former Commissioner Matt McGloin officially resigned back in March.

Shouting broke out on the House floor after Speaker Mike Johnson (R-La.) held a moment of prayer for conservative commentator Charlie Kirk, who was fatally shot on Wednesday afternoon.
After the moment of silence, Johnson recognized Rep. Lauren Boebert (R-Colo.).

College campuses are emphasizing the resources they have for students who are struggling. Many counselors at local universities are reminding students that they are not alone and, should they need, help is always available.
