Waffle House adding surcharge for every egg ordered

(NEXSTAR) – Waffle House restaurants across the nation will be adding a 50-cent surcharge to every egg ordered amid soaring prices due to inflation and the bird flu epidemic.

The surcharge took effect Monday, according to a Waffle House memo shared with Nexstar.

“The continuing egg shortage caused by HPAI (Bird Flu) has caused a dramatic increase in egg prices,” the memo reads. “Consumers and restaurants are being forced to make difficult decisions. Effective February 3, Waffle House has implemented a temporary .50 per egg surcharge to all menus.”

Pennsylvania Governor proposes legalizing marijuana

HARRISBURG, Pa. (WHTM) - Pennsylvania Governor Josh Shapiro proposed legalizing recreational marijuana during his budget address on Tuesday.

The Governor's call echoed his last two budget addresses where he called for the legalization and taxation of cannabis.

"Letting this business operate in the shadows doesn’t make sense," said Shapiro. "And by doing nothing, we’re making Pennsylvania less competitive."

Shapiro added that by taxing marijuana Pennsylvania could bring in $1.3 billion in revenue over the first five years.

Nation’s first cancer respite center coming to NEPA

LACKAWAXEN TWP., PIKE COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — This year the nation’s first cancer respite center is expected to break ground in Pike County.

Walking the property of Woodloch Resort in Hawley, the snow-covered ground won’t be bare for long as it’s the location of a first-of-its-kind cancer retreat facility.

“What’s beautiful about this respite center is that families are going to be able to create their own individual respite experience and some of the activities that they’ll be able to enjoy are art therapy, yoga, meditation.”

Governor Josh Shapiro proposes $51.5 billion budget in annual address

HARRISBURG, Pa. (WHTM) - Governor Josh Shapiro presented his $51.5 billion budget address on Tuesday with proposals including legalizing marijuana, providing money to schools and public transportation, reviewing the state's real estate portfolio, and aiding caseworkers.

This would be the first time a Pennsylvania budget breaks $50 billion.

Shapiro’s hands are tied to a great extent, bound by a huge increase in costs for the medical care for the poor, as well as a slow-growing economy and a shrinking workforce that is delivering relatively meager gains in tax collections.

Target retail theft arrest leads to drugs seized

WILKES-BARRE TWP., LUZERNE COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — A woman was arrested after police say she was stealing over $100 worth of items from Target and was later found with drugs.

Wilkes-Barre Township Police say they arrested Candis Lazovich, 35, of Plymouth on February 1 after Target Loss Prevention caught her concealing and under-ringing items at self-checkout worth $143.95.

Man accused of assaulting officer outside of Dream Girls

Following her arrest she was found to have $3,600 in cash and possession of multiple controlled substances, officers reported.
