SCRANTON, LACKAWANNA COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — It's a community block party that's more than fair food and games of chance; it's a way to solidify the relationship between a community and its police force.

This annual event's objective is to get the community involved in preventing crime with some added fun along the way.

A late 19th-century building has been a fixture of Orwigsburg. With new renovations, it has brought the Orwigsburg Police Department into the 21st century.

LEWISBURG — The Republican candidate for the 4th Ward seat on the Lewisburg Borough Council withdrew from the election, according to Union County Election Director Laura Seward.Rudy Mummey secured the Republican nomination in the primary election in May, but withdrew his name from the ballot in the General Election on Nov. 4. Incumbent Philip Stamm is the Democratic nominee for the position with no competition.Aug. 11 was the deadline to withdraw.

SELINSGROVE — A 41-year-old Selinsgrove man accused of threatening his mother with a homemade weapon is charged with felony aggravated assault.

In some Pennsylvania counties, child abuse allegations are only investigated by caseworkers, while others include the expertise of specialized doctors and nurses.

COAL TOWNSHIP — A Northumberland County jury found a State Correctional Institution Coal Township inmate not guilty of third-degree homicide in 2022 but guilty of felony aggravated assault after a 2022 incident inside the prison in Coal Township.

SUNBURY — Hundreds of people had the chance to mingle with law enforcement and first responders during Sunbury National Night Out Tuesday.
