Structure fire sends one firefighter to hospital in Lackawanna County

OLYPHANT, LACKAWANNA COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU)— A Sunday morning fire damaged a house with apartments inside.

According to the Lackawanna County Center for Public Safety, crews were called to the 200 block of Sanderson Ave for a reported structure fire just before 9:30 a.m.

When on-scene crews encountered a smoky blaze, that could be seen throughout the county.

Officials say the fire was under control by 10:15 a.m.

Chief Tratthen of the Excelsior Fire Company #1 stated that one firefighter transported with minor injuries.

Trunk or Treat event draws over 1000 kids in Lackawanna County

MOOSIC, LACKAWANNA COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU)— The world's largest fundraiser to fight Alzheimer's disease stepped off this morning in Lackawanna County.

The Alzheimer's Association's Greater Pennsylvania Chapter held their annual walk to end Alzheimer's Saturday at PNC Field.

It's an event that happens in cities nationwide.

Here in our area, more than 700 people came out to participate.
