SCRANTON, LACKAWANNA COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — A local daycare center is now closed after investigators say the owner failed to report child abuse that occurred there. The Department of Human Services (DHS) issued an emergency removal order for Learn and Grow Early Childhood Center on Friday.
A notice to parents from DHS says the daycare's owners failed to comply with the department's regulations for operation of a child care facility.
Owner Amy Ware is being charged individually with failure to report child abuse.
More charges are expected in the coming days.
WILKES-BARRE, LUZERNE COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — Wilkes-Barre City residents came out on Monday for a special recycling event. A drive-through E-Recycling and Paper Shredding event was held for city residents at the Wilkes-Barre Public Works facility.
Those who attended had to present proof of residency.
Electronics such as laptop computers, keyboards, and microwaves were accepted free of charge.

Additional items such as TVs, stereos, and monitors were accepted with a fee.
LEWISBURG, UNION COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — A state initiative that helps Pennsylvanians seeking treatment is expanding. Attorney General Dave Sunday made the announcement on Monday in Lewisburg.
The Law Enforcement Treatment Initiative (LETI) will now include behavioral health and mental health services for program participants.
Columbia, Montour, Snyder, and Union Counties will be the first counties to launch LETI with the expanded mental health component.
LACKAWANNA COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — Six ballot drop boxes are now in place in Lackawanna County, ahead of the November 4 municipal election.
The secure drop boxes are located at Lackawanna County Government Center, Fallbrook Senior Community Center, Clarks Summit Borough Building, Dickson City Borough Building, Moosic Borough Building, and Roaring Brook Township Municipal Building.
Local business being impacted by state budget impasse
