Welcome Center closed for roof, facility evaluations in Delaware Water Gap

DELAWARE WATER GAP, MONROE COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — The Delaware Water Gap Welcome Center in Monroe County off Interstate 80 is closed for roof and facility evaluations.

Damage was found in the interior of the building and they're trying to assess the damage in order to develop a repair plan.

Historic Wilkes-Barre building demolished

The facility will remain closed until further notice.

Travelers can use the rest stop facilities on I-80 East in Luzerne County and I-80 West in Morris County, New Jersey.

A crew took down the historic Engel Building Wednesday morning on South Main and East Northampton Streets.

STROUDSBURG, MONROE COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — Street2Feet is also working with Stroudsburg and Monroe County officials to find solutions for the homeless.

They say the homeless population has significantly grown in the Stroudsburg area over the past year.

The county decided to allow their property in the wooded area behind Glen Park in Stroudsburg to be a temporary location for the homeless to set up an encampment.

They were given an opportunity to connect and discuss a wide range of job opportunities.

EAST STROUDSBURG, MONROE COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — People in need are getting a helping hand in the Poconos.

Street2Feet received a generous donation from the PEO Sisterhood to assist the homeless community in Monroe County.

The organization began a drive to collect items from donors in September.

On Wednesday, PEO dropped off the items which include tents, clothing, and toiletries.

CLINTON TOWNSHIP, WYOMING COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — A popular restaurant in Wyoming County that was destroyed by fire is preparing to reopen.

Gin's Tavern near Factoryville has been closed for 18 months while crews worked on rebuilding the business.

The fire happened back in May of last year.

The catastrophic impact of Tropical Storm Debby is still being felt across NEPA.

Governor Josh Shapiro says President Biden approved his request for more public assistance for the August storm.

The funds from the Federal Emergency Management Agency will help local municipalities and private nonprofits in 12 PA counties.
