EAST BUFFALO TOWNSHIP, UNION COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — A Geisinger Cancer Treatment Center is coming to Union County, but not everyone is happy about it. The land, which was once going to be a Giant distribution center, is now planned to become a treatment center.

Borough officials say the current plan includes one building bringing in around 300 cars per day.

Residents say they're worried about how the new project could bring a lot of traffic to Route 15.

WILKES-BARRE, LUZERNE COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — The city of Wilkes-Barre is now better prepared for a flood.

The city partnered with the Luzerne County Flood Protection Authority to put a facility building at Kirby Park to hold flood walls and house the tools needed to close the Market Street Bridge during a flood.

This facility is approximately a quarter mile away from the bridge to ensure crews can be there within minutes in the case of an emergency.

He was successfully removed, but fire officials say this should be a wake-up call for anyone thinking about swimming in rivers this summer.

PLYMOUTH TOWNSHIP, LUZERNE COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — Crews were called to a rekindling of a house fire that happened early Tuesday morning.

Firefighters were sent to 425 Curry Hill Road for a house fire around 3:30 a.m. They were called back around 9:10 a.m. when the fire reignited.

Victim in fatal crash identified as local councilman

Black smoke could be seen billowing from the area for miles as firefighters worked to put out the fire.

According to Plymouth Fire Department Chief Josh Evans, there were no injuries.

SOUTH ABINGTON TOWNSHIP, LACKAWANNA COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — The victim of a fatal crash in South Abington Township was identified as a Dickson City Councilman.

According to the Lackawanna County Coroner, 70-year-old Michael Fedorka, of Dickson City, passed away in the hospital after a two-car crash on the 700 block of North State Street around 8:00 p.m. Sunday, May 25.

Fedorka was currently serving his fourth term on the Dickson City Borough Council.
