(WBRE/WYOU) — With warmer weather on the way, drive-in theaters across northeastern Pennsylvania are prepping the concession stands, popping kernels, and getting ready for the season to begin.

While many prefer the climate-controlled environment of a traditional cinema, there are some who crave the throwback experience of pulling up, tuning in the radio, and cranking the volume to watch a new summer Hollywood blockbuster on the big screen from the comfort of their vehicle.

This weekend many of the drive-in theaters in NEPA are opening their gates for the 2025 season.

(WBRE/WYOU) — The Pennsylvania Department of Agriculture says there are three more counties in our area that have been added to the spotted lanternfly quarantine list, gathering almost every county in the northeast.

Bradford, Sullivan, and Wyoming counties have been added to the spotted lanternfly quarantine list as spring starts to begin.

Now, almost every county in NEPA is under the spotted lanternfly quarantine.

BRADFORD COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — A man has been sentenced after a two-year-old came in contact with illegal drugs.

Pennsylvania State Police charged 28-year-old Joshua Tripp, from Wysox, after he allowed a two-year-old child to come in contact with his illegal drugs, causing the child to act strangely and require medical attention, according to the Bradford County District Attorney's Office.

Officials say the child fully recovered but tested positive for benzodiazepine and fentanyl.

LUZERNE COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — Two communities teamed up to clear a large dumpsite along the west bank of the Susquehanna River after it was discovered by public works crews.

Public Works Departments from Wilkes-Barre City and Edwardsville Borough spent Friday morning clearing the piles of debris from a wooded area near Kirby Park.

"The accumulation of garbage was discovered by Wilkes-Barre City DPW crews after the homeless encampment in Kirby Park was cleared in late March by the city," said Wilkes-Barre Mayor George Brown.
