County sues pool contractor for 'leak-plagued' pool work in McDade Park

SCRANTON, LACKAWANNA COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — Lackawanna County has filed a lawsuit against the contractor hired to reconstruct the "leak-plagued" swimming pool at McDade Park.

The county's suit against D&M Construction Unlimited, of Dalton, alleges that the "contractor breached its contract with the county through 'defective' work."

D&M was hired for the $2,637,000 contract in February 2023 to work on a new bathhouse and renovate the pool, which was supposed to be completed by July 2023.

$1M won off $20 lottery scratch-off ticket in Pa.

SIMPSON, LACKAWANNA COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — A lucky lottery player has won $1 million off a $20 scratch-off ticket in Pennsylvania.

According to the Pennsylvania Lottery, a retailer in Lackawanna County sold a $1 million-winning All Cash Scratch-Off. All Cash is a $20 game that offers top prizes of $1 million.

Beer Express on Main Street in Simpson will receive a $5,000 bonus for selling the winning ticket.

1 injured, road closed in Monroe County motorcycle crash

SMITHFIELD TOWNSHIP, MONROE COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — Authorities say one person was injured after a reported crash in Smithfield Township late Sunday night.

Officials told 28/22 News crews were called to the unit block of Independence Road in Smithfield Township, Monroe County, for a reported crash involving a motorcycle and a car at about 10:05 p.m.

Man identified after fatal Sugarloaf Township crash

PSP Stroudsburg is heading the response to the incident.

The roadway has been closed, and it is unknown at this time when it will reopen.

Runners push their limits in Iron Horse 8K in Scranton

SCRANTON, LACKAWANNA COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — Showing what you are made of, pushing your limits, and, for those over 21, getting a free beer: That was the goal on Sunday for many runners in Scranton.

The Iron Horse 8K took over the Montage Mountain Resorts on Sunday.

Nearly 200 runners came out to try their hand at conquering the course through scenic mountain terrain.

The trail race's elevation and distance are known for offering quite the challenge.

Dinosaurs come to life at Mountain Top golf course

MOUNTAIN TOP, LUZERNE COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — It's not every day you get to see animatronic dinosaurs, but that's what lots of families got to see on Sunday in Mountain Top.

The parking lot at Malacari's Ice Cream and Mini-golf turned into a sight from the Jurassic period. Visitors were able to get up close with these creatures of the past.

Triceratops, T-Rexes, and a stegosaurus visited Mountain Top for the first time.

Those brave enough to get close were able to watch the animatronics move right in front of them.
