Rocking the River rebounds after last show uncertainty

WILKES-BARRE, LUZERNE COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU)— The seventh annual Rockin' the River event had their last concert at The River Common in Wilkes-Barre.

The event stirred some controversy over one of the acts being canceled, but the show went on.

Even after some rumors of the entire event getting canceled, Rockin the River crews pulled together two tribute bands for rock 'n' roll fans to enjoy one more free concert of the summer.

Rock 'n' roll fans didn't mind a brief rain storm for Rockin' the River's final concert for this year's event along the Susquehanna River.

Local firehouse demolished after five decades of service

MOOSIC, LACKAWANNA COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU)— In Moosic, a final farewell to a firehouse that served the borough for nearly five decades.

Crews demolished the Greenwood Hose Company's old station on Birney Avenue.

It makes way for the new six-million-dollar emergency services headquarters being built just behind the old one.

Schiff’s Marketplace reopens after fire

The 18-thousand square-foot building will soon house both fire and police, offering more space for apparatus, training, and modern amenities.

Construction is expected to be finished in November.

Benefit to raise awareness for distracted driving

ELMHURST TOWNSHIP, LACKAWANNA COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU)— A benefit is being held Friday and Saturday remembering a young man who tragically lost his life in a car crash more than five years ago.

"You know, it's never gonna be normal, but it's a new normal. It's just knowing that he's not here," explained Sandie Bisignani, Brandon Bisignani's mother.

Brandon Bisignani was just 27 when he lost his life in a car crash in 2019.

Lane restrictions to cause backup on Route 11

(WBRE/WYOU)— A heads up for drivers in the Lackawanna County area.

Lane restrictions on Route 11 are causing traffic changes and delays.

Beginning Monday, a preservation project is taking place near parts of Scranton and South Abington Township.

PennDOT will use a new process called cape seal.

This will be the first time PennDOT will use the method in the state.

SCRANTON, LACKAWANNA COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — A section of the Lake Scranton walking path will be temporarily closed.

Pennsylvania American Water announced that the path will be closed as a safety precaution due to increased truck traffic during maintenance work in the area.

Community pool remains closed after chemical leak

The closure affects the walking path from where the path meets the roadway at the small stone bridge, to the dam near the fishing pier.

Man sentenced for delivering fentanyl to hospital patient

BRADFORD COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — A man has been sentenced after he delivered fentanyl to a patient at a hospital he pretended to visit.

51-year-old Kirby Spruill of New York was sentenced to a minimum of 45 months to a maximum of 12 years on the charge of possession with intent to deliver 5.18 grams of fentanyl.

Spruill was charged after an incident in December 2024 at the Robert Packer Hospital. Officials reported that Spruill was seen to hand drugs to a patient he was supposedly "visiting."

Officers began investigating reported incidents of a pit bull attacking multiple people in Scranton.

9-year-old dies at The Boardwalk in Hersheypark

On July 12, a woman was walking her Chihuahua when the pit bull came from the backyard of a house on Stephen Avenue and attacked them, police reported.

MILLVILLE, COLUMBIA COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — A community pool will remain closed this weekend and next week.

Little Fishing Creek Area Swimming Pool announced via Facebook on Friday that it would remain closed throughout this weekend and next week.

Local community takes a stand against proposed data center

This comes after the pool closed on Thursday, July 17 for repairs when a chemical leak occurred, causing evacuations in the area and extending the closure.
