On Wednesday, that tour brought him to Scranton. The governor made his way to Isaac Tripp Elementary, highlighting how these investments in public education are starting to pay off for students, teachers, and families.

Fire department fundraiser kicks off in Lackawanna County

JESSUP, LACKAWANNA COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — The fun has just begun at an annual fire department fundraiser in Lackawanna County. The Jessup Hose Company Number Two carnival kicked off on Wednesday, offering plenty of games, live entertainment, rides, and delicious food.

The event is in its 33rd year, and it raises more than half of its funding for the year.

SCRANTON, LACKAWANNA COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — Marywood University is once again honoring the men and women who have paid the ultimate sacrifice. Volunteers hope to have 6,000 US flags placed on Marywood University's tree stadium lawn for their annual Flags for the Fallen display.

The setup process began on Wednesday so that the display will be ready for the Memorial Day weekend.

WEST HAZLETON, LUZERNE COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) officials are promoting safe driving ahead of the holiday weekend. They took part on Wednesday in a Click It or Ticket seat belt enforcement event in West Hazleton.

The initiative aims to emphasize the life-saving importance of wearing a seat belt while traveling on Pennsylvania roadways.

According to PennDOT data in 2024, there were 1127 roadway fatalities in Pennsylvania, with 311 involving unbelted occupants.

(WBRE/WYOU) — A new announcement from the Federal Aviation Administration on Wednesday afternoon: The FAA says it is reducing the number of flights arriving and departing from Newark Airport. It's all because of air traffic control issues and ongoing construction.

The new maximum number of takeoffs and landings will be capped at 56 per hour. That's 28 arrivals and 28 departures.

It could be adjusted depending on conditions.

Woman banned from gambling for leaving kids in car

(WBRE/WYOU) — According to the PA Gaming Control Board, a woman lost her gambling privileges when she left her seven-month-old twins in the car to cash out.

The gaming board says the woman left her seven-month-old twins in a car in the valet area of Valley Forge Casino Resort for five minutes in order to cash out at the sportsbook.

Rome man arrested after theft from VFW in Bradford County

ASYLUM TWP., Pa. (WETM) – A Rome man has been arrested following an investigation into the theft of funds from a VFW in Bradford County, as stated in a release from Pennsylvania State Police (PSP).

Zebulin Yale, 31, was arrested on Monday, May 19, after PSP in Towanda say they investigated the report of a theft from the Asylum Township VFW Post 6072.

(WBRE/WYOU) — Pennsylvania State Police say they will be strictly enforcing violations for Memorial Day Weekend, including an increase in DUI checkpoints.

Troop N, Stroudsburg, announced there will be a DUI checkpoint conducted from Friday, May 23, to Monday, May 26, in Monroe County.

Troop L, which includes Schuylkill County, said they will be strictly enforcing violations, specifically targeting DUI, aggressive driving, tailgating, seatbelt usage, and speeding.
