Community scares up good time with Shawnee Spooktacular

PLYMOUTH, LUZERNE COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — A local community is scaring up a good time this weekend for some early Halloween fun. Kids dressed head to toe in their favorite costumes showed up Sunday afternoon at Goodwill Hose Company in Plymouth.

It's the first-ever Shawnee Spooktacular put on by Plymouth Alive.

A bounce house, pumpkin decorating, and walking tacos were part of the fun.

Plymouth Fire Department, the Shawnee Indians Football Program, and the Historical Society are a few community organizations that helped set up the event.

Grieving families getting support through Empty Stroller 5K Walk, Run

SCRANTON, LACKAWANNA COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — Grieving families are getting support this weekend thanks to a fundraiser in Scranton.

200 people participated in the 5th Annual Empty Stroller 5K Walk and Run along the Lackawanna River Heritage Trail.

The empty strollers represent families who lost a child during pregnancy, infancy, or early childhood.

Families put stuffed animals and decorations on their strollers to memorialize their child.

WILKES-BARRE, LUZERNE COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — Some masked marauders roaming Downtown Wilkes-Barre is no reason to call the police this weekend. It's all part of an annual celebration on the Public Square.

From inflatable costumes to box costumes and even iconic band members, they were all part of this year's trick-or-treating event in Downtown Wilkes-Barre.

Kids dressed up as all kinds of characters which caught the attention of many, including one five-year-old girl.

Crews to inspect Nanticoke-West Nanticoke Bridge

NANTICOKE, LUZERNE COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — A reminder for drivers about a bridge closure beginning on Monday: PennDOT says crews will inspect the Nanticoke-West Nanticoke Bridge as it has now in the past.

Officials say the bridge needs to be repaired or replaced.

Bridge beam deliveries may cause delays across NEPA

The inspection and closure start Monday morning at 7:00 a.m. and continue until Wednesday night at 6:00 p.m.

PennDOT recommends using the South Cross Valley Expressway as a detour while the bridge is closed.

EYEWITNESS NEWS (WBRE/WYOU)— Bridge beam deliveries will cause delays and close a parking area in Scranton.

The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation states that the the Parker Street Heritage Valley parking area in Scranton from Monday, October 28, 2024 through Thursday, October 31, 2024.

The beams will be delivered Monday and Tuesday going down Interstate 81 South and taking Exit 202 to Route 107 southbound.

Man arrested after alleged shots fired in Scranton

SCRANTON, LACKAWANNA COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU)— One man has been arrested in connection with multiple reports of shots fired Sunday morning.

Police say 38-year-old Rashaad Ryans was criminally charged with Persons not to Possess, manufacture, Control, Sell, or Transfer Firearms, Recklessly Endangering Another Person, and a Misdemeanor charge of Disorderly Conduct.

According to a release by the Scranton Police Department, police were dispatched just after 6:00 a.m. to the area of Davis Street and Colliery Avenue for multiple reports of shots fired.
