Pa. Supreme Court rejects GOP petition on provisionals; SCOTUS challenge filed

HARRISBURG — The Pennsylvania Supreme Court on Monday denied a petition filed by state and national Republicans that sought to temporarily halt a prior ruling that mandates all counties to accept provisional ballots when a mail-in ballot has been rejected due to voter error.

Firefighters battle Exeter Township brush fire

EXETER TOWNSHIP, LUZERNE COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — Crews battled a smoky brush fire Monday afternoon in Luzerne County at the Wyoming County line.

Local firefighters and crews from the Department of Forestry were on the scene.

Councilman’s car catches fire after striking deer

The fire started as a house fire on Mill Hill Road in Exeter Township and quickly spread into the woods and up the hill.

The dry conditions helped fuel the flames, making it a difficult firefight for crews.

No one was hurt and the homeowners are able to return home on Monday.

Crews make progress on North Scranton bridge replacement project

SCRANTON, LACKAWANNA COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — Progress is being made on an expansive bridge replacement project in North Scranton, but this week, drivers in other parts of Lackawanna County could be affected.

Several beams were delivered for the Parker Street Bridge on Monday and several more will travel in on Tuesday and Wednesday.

The delivery route from Interstate 81 travels through several mid-valley boroughs before the final destination in Scranton.

Drivers may be stopped by local police in order to get the beams delivered as smoothly as possible.

Luzerne County voter registrations dropped off en masse considered valid

LUZERNE COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — Luzerne County District Attorney Sam Sanguedolce has released the findings of an investigation performed by his office after numerous public complaints about documents submitted to the Luzerne County Election Bureau by a former county employee.

Sanguedolce said Monday that the complaints ranged from allegations of thousands of voter registrations being submitted, to actual ballots being submitted to the election bureau.
