Repairs continue on sinkhole after 2 months of opening

WILKES-BARRE, LUZERNE COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — It has been more than two months since 28/22 News first reported on a massive sinkhole that opened up on Horton Street in Wilkes-Barre. That hole has not gone anywhere, and people living near it say it's actually gotten bigger.

Much of Horton Street is still closed after not one, but two sinkholes opened up in recent months.

The more recent one has since been filled in. The other, not so much. One thing neighbors agree on is that something needs to be done.

New skill games tax introduced in area borough

STROUDSBURG, MONROE COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — A new skill games tax was recently introduced in Stroudsburg. 28/22 News Reporter Connor Coar explains the goals of this new tax and the effects it may have on the borough's businesses.

The skill games tax was introduced on August 19 to help create a more inviting atmosphere for those who come through Stroudsburg.

Borough manager Larry Kopp believes that skill game machines do not do that.

VIDEO: Groundhog spotted snacking on pizza slice

28/22 NEWS (WBRE/WYOU) — Through 28/22's Report It page, a viewer sent us a video of a groundhog enjoying something not typically in their diet on Wednesday.

Emilee in Ransom Township sent 28/22 News a video of the rodent neatly snacking on a slice of pizza.

Bresnahan unveils new legislation, holds round table in Dallas

DALLAS, LUZERNE COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — New legislation is being rolled out by a state lawmaker. US Representative Rob Bresnahan held a roundtable and unveiling event on Wednesday at Braces Orchard in Dallas.

The event showcased the Local Farmers Feeding Our Communities Act, legislation the representative says is aimed at securing long-term investments in local food systems.

Farmers, food banks, and community food advocates also came together to share the importance of supporting local agriculture and access to food.

Scranton recognizes 'Good Neighbors' with award

SCRANTON, LACKAWANNA COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — The first honorees of Scranton's Good Neighbor program were celebrated by Mayor Paige Cognetti on Wednesday morning. The program recognizes homeowners in the city who take great pride in taking care of their properties.

Homeowners are nominated by members of the city's code enforcement team.

The honorees received a door knocker and a gift card to Gerrity's supermarkets for their years of dedication.

Jack and Donna Borer have lived in this house for 40 years and are among the first recipients.

Thousands of Pa. trails mapped with new online resource

(WBRE/WYOU) — A new digital resource that maps out thousands of miles of trails at Pennsylvania state parks was released on Wednesday, according to a press release from the Pennsylvania Department of Conservation and Natural Resources (DCNR).

Digital trail information collected by the DCNR is now publicly available through its Open Data Portal and Interactive Map.
