Ride with the Clown Kid Alzheimer's Fundraiser steps off in Harvey's Lake

HARVEYS LAKE, LUZERNE COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — Some rain on Sunday didn't stop a fundraiser aimed at raising money and awareness toward fighting a devastating disease.

Dozens of people took part in the Third Annual Ride with the Clown Kid Bike Race at Harvey's Lake.

Bicyclists pedaled more than eight miles around the lake. The event also welcomed runners and walkers for the first time to cover a two-mile course.

All of the proceeds go to the Alzheimer's Association.

HAZLE TOWNSHIP, LUZERNE COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — Weekend school supply giveaways are a sure sign we are getting closer to the start of the fall semester.

Families waited in line outside the Verizon retailer Round Room near Hazleton for a School Rocks backpack giveaway.

Many of the backpacks available were clear in order to comply with school district regulations.

The event also featured a couple of freebies, including haircuts at no cost from Cabrera Barber Shop.

The owner says he wanted to give back as a way of supporting the community that supports him.

Detours to begin on Route 11 in Lackawanna County

SCRANTON, LACKAWANNA COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — Lane restrictions are coming to a busy stretch of highway in Lackawanna County.

28/22 News previously reported about the preservation project on Route 11 in part of Scranton and South Abington Township.

Inmate found dead at local penitentiary

The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation says the project will use a new sealing technique called "cape seal."

It's considered more cost-effective than traditional paving and will better protect the roadway from wear and tear.
