Olyphant man arrested for allegedly shooting ex

LACKAWANNA COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU)— A man has been arrested in connection with an alleged shooting on March 9.

According to a release by Scranton Police Department, 27 year-old Claude Harris from Olyphant was arrested on multiple counts of Felony Aggravated Assault, Simple Assault, Recklessly Endangering Another Person, and Criminal Conspiracy.

It's Match Day for local medical students

SCRANTON, LACKAWANNA COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU)— Today is the day the dreams of many medical students come true, it is match day!

Fourth year medical students around the country learn today where they will spend their post-graduate residency.

Students at the Geisinger College School of Medicine celebrated the day at the Scranton Cultural Center.

One final goodbye for Lt. Hopkins

SCRANTON, LACKAWANNA COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU)— A final goodbye was given today to a beloved Scranton firefighter who lost his battle with cancer following a courageous fight.

It was an emotional but beautiful service for Lieutenant Hopkins, as family and friends said their final farewell.

Locals react to Broadway Street Bridge closure

WEST NANTICOKE, LUZERNE COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — A bridge that connects two communities in NEPA is shut down until further notice.

On March 20, Luzerne County Manager Romilda Crocamo announced the immediate closure of the Broadway Street Bridge.

The bridge connects Nanticoke and West Nanticoke. People 28/22 News spoke with say the closure is inconvenient, and they're concerned about how long it will take to reopen or be replaced.

Meals on Wheels helps out seniors on Monroe County

HAMILTON TOWNSHIP, MONROE COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU)— Monroe County Meals on Wheels is wrapping up its community champions week.

Special guests helped deliver meals all week long for the cause.

Friday, Congressman Mackenzie, Pocono Township Commissioner Winot, and Northeast Site Contractors took part.

The special week commemorates the historic day in March of 1972 when the Older American Act was amended to include a nutrition program for Americans 60 years and older.
