Superintendents talk school safety in 2025

(WBRE/WYOU) — The start of the new school year is now just weeks away for most area school districts. Most resume classes at the end of the month or early September.

28/22 News talked with the superintendents of the two largest school districts in NEPA, Hazleton and Scranton, about their final preps

The Hazleton and Scranton school districts combine for a total of more than 20,000 students.

Hazleton is the largest district. They say their number one priority is school safety.

NWS flash flood warning expires after roads take on water

(WBRE/WYOU) — Severe flash flood warnings were in effect for Lackawanna and Luzerne counties on Wednesday afternoon.

Heavy rain and thunderstorms were reported across the two counties.

Flooded basements have been reported in Dunmore.

The National Weather Service (NWS) said the following areas were affected at the time:

Scranton

Pittston

Dunmore

Old Forge

Archbald

Dickson City

Moosic

Olyphant

Clarks Summit

West Wyoming

Moscow

Mayfield

Elmhurst

Glendale

Mount Cobb
