Agency gives Valley organizations $2 million to reduce pollution in Chesapeake Bay watershed

HARRISBURG — More than $24 million in funding to reduce pollution and restore local streams, rivers, and lakes in the Chesapeake Bay watershed has been awarded by the Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection, including nearly $2 million for local counties.

PA Turnpike's 2024 construction season now over

EYEWITNESS NEWS (WBRE/WYOU) — Some good news on the road. The construction season is over on the Pennsylvania Turnpike.

The Turnpike says it spent more than $286,000,000 on maintaining and modernizing the road.

Twenty eight miles was resurfaced this year with another 27 miles completely reconstructed.

The Turnpike will resume work that's still in progress early next year.

Pittston crews battle blaze, fire under investigation

PITTSTON, LUZERNE COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — The cause of a Pittston fire is under investigation in Luzerne County on Monday.

The Pittston City Fire Department Chief says they were called to a fire on North Main Street in Pittston at 9:00 a.m.

Wilkes-Barre Fire Department unveils new engine

Crews found smoke on the first floor and an active fire in the basement where mattresses, blankets, and garbage were all lit on fire.

Nobody was in the home at the time of the fire.

The property is vacant and condemned and the city is working to track down the owners.

Tamaqua student wins Christmas Card Contest

TAMAQUA, SCHUYLKILL COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — Many of us who send Christmas cards look for just the right artwork and an equally good verse. Some local parochial school students were asked to have a hand in making such a card.

In this week's Here's to You Kid, 28/22 News Reporter Mark Hiller introduces us to some students now gaining notoriety thanks to their creativity.

Charles DeFrancisco is familiar with the verse he is reading from a religious Christmas card for sale. After all, the Marian Catholic High School Senior wrote it.
