Good samaritan reflects on rescuing man in deadly fire

EAST STROUDSBURG, MONROE COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — An investigation continues into a fire that broke out at a bar in Monroe County last week, taking the lives of two people.

Several first responder agencies were called to the scene, but others nearby stepped in to help those stuck inside.

The smell of smoke is still in the air at the former Wander Inn Bar and Grill in East Stroudsburg on Monday.

(WHTM) - Penn State Football will now play at West Shore Home Field at Beaver Stadium after the Cumberland County-based home improvement company acquired naming rights to the iconic Penn State field.

The $50 million deal was approved by the Board of Trustees in a 22-8 vote on Monday morning. The new name will begin during the 2025 season and will run through the 2039 season.

WILLIAMSPORT, LYCOMING COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — A Williamsport man has been sentenced to nine years in prison for child pornography.

After a federal search warrant, investigators found Felix Trepanowski, 24, in possession of approximately 2,420 images of child pornography.

According to the U.S. Department of Justice, Trepanowski received images of child pornography on multiple occasions between 2022 and 2024.

(NEXSTAR) — Amid intermittent outages to X on Monday, owner Elon Musk says the social media platform was hit by "a massive cyberattack" that "still is" occurring.

"We get attacked every day, but this was done with a lot of resources," Musk wrote on X shortly before 1:30 p.m. ET. "Either a large, coordinated group and/or a country is involved."

The issues appeared to start early Monday morning, with two subsequent outages reported by users.

WASHINGTON TOWNSHIP, SCHUYLKILL COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — A man is dead after a crash in Schuylkill County.

Police say on March 6, 40-year-old Kyle Cleary of Pine Grove was driving along Flat Hill Road in Washington Township when he hit a large oak tree that was spread across both lanes.

Cleary was pronounced dead at the scene. PSP noted that Cleary was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash.

Man charged with shots fired leading to stand-off

S. ABINGTON TWP., LACKAWANNA COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — Police arrested a man after they say he fired multiple shots, which led to a stand-off over the weekend.

According to the South Abington Township Police Department, on March 8 around 10:00 p.m., officers were called to the 1100 block of Layton Road for a man with a gun, threatening to harm himself.

Police say the man, identified as 56-year-old George Frietto, fired one shot through the bedroom wall while officers were speaking with a woman who lives in the home with him.
