Dress for Success kicks off International Women's Day

KINGSTON, LUZERNE COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU)— Dress for Success Luzerne county kicked off "International Women's Day" celebrations, one day early, in Kingston with their annual luncheon.

The honorable Stefanie Salavantis, the first female president judge in Luzerne County's 250 year history, was the guest of honor.

She was interviewed in a "Fireside Chat" hosted by our very own Rachel Malak.

At the JCC, guests enjoyed their meals, participated in the basket raffle, and bought "Women of Action" t shirts — all to support "Dress For Success".

Forensic experts came to a simple but heartrending conclusion about the manner of death for 95-year-old actor Gene Hackman. He died of heart disease with complications from Alzheimer’s disease a full week after a rare, rodent-borne disease took the life of his wife at their Santa Fe home. Authorities revealed Friday that Hackman apparently died following Betsy Arakawa's death from hantavirus. Chief medical investigator Dr. Heather Jarrell says both deaths were ruled to be from natural causes. Authorities initially ruled out foul play after the bodies were discovered Feb 26.

Fish fry season has begun in NEPA

BERWICK, COLUMBIA COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU)— Many people are enjoying non-meat options this first Friday of Lent.

For the next few weeks, dozens of churches and fire companies all across our area hold annual Lenten fish fries to help raise money.

This is the second week for their popular fish fry.

During Lent, millions of faithful abstain from eating meat in preparation for Easter which is April 20.
