Home a total loss after fire in Luzerne County

BEAR CREEK TOWNSHIP, LUZERNE COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — A home is believed to be a total loss after a Monday afternoon fire, according to the Bear Creek Township Fire Department.

Jim Serafin, Second Assistant Chief of the Bear Creek Township Fire Department, stated that crews were called to the 200 block of Twin Brook Road for a reported structure fire around 1:30 p.m.

Officials say that the home was fully involved when they arrived on-scene, with fire coming through the roof.

Victim identified in deadly 315 crash

PLAINS TOWNSHIP, LUZERNE COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — A woman is dead, and Route 315 has reopened in Plains Township on Monday after a three-vehicle crash.

Luzerne County Coroner Dion Fernandes confirmed 32-year-old Holli Wachilla died in the crash on Monday.

According to Sergeant Michael Smith with the Plains Township Police Department, crews were called to a three-vehicle crash just after 3:00 p.m. at the intersection of Ridgewood Road and PA-315.

Luzerne County student earns President's Education Award

ASHLEY, LUZERNE COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — Getting good grades is the obvious goal of students everywhere, but a Luzerne County girl has taken that task to a much greater level.

Put a book in Maci Dudeck's hands, and she is totally in her element. The 14-year-old from Ashley is an avid reader. How avid? Just ask her father.

"I think 138 books in one school year. She read all the classics, loves Greek mythology," explained Alan Dudeck, Maci's father.
