Pittston parish hosts Annual Tree Lighting, live nativity

PITTSTON, LUZERNE COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — A time-honored holiday tradition is alive and well after families gathered in Luzerne County on Sunday.

St. Joseph Marello Parish in Pittston hosted its Annual Tree Lighting and live nativity performance.

Inside the parish hall, members of the church put on The Greatest Story Ever Told, narrated by 28/22's Gianna Galli.

Outside, families met animals like a camel, a donkey, and goats brought in for the nativity scene.

Keystone College students left in limbo after Thanksgiving break

LA PLUME TOWNSHIP, LACKAWANNA COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — Students are returning to a local college campus after Thanksgiving break with way more than the holiday season on their minds.

Keystone College faces the possibility of closing after learning last week that it's no longer accredited.

It's back to reality for Keystone College Juniors Abigail Hall and Clifford Mastricola.

With their Thanksgiving break over, they returned on Sunday to Keystone College.

"This whole semester has been very strange. It's been very strange here," Hall explained.

Officials say Jackson Township gas leak contained, stopped

JACKSON TOWNSHIP, MONROE COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — Monroe County authorities say residents can return home after crews tackled a gas leak in Jackson Township Sunday night.

At 8:45 p.m., officials say the Jackson Township Fire Company, the Pocono Township Fire Company, and additional crews were called to Modern Gas Sales at the intersection of Route 715 and Possinger Drive in Jackson Township, Monroe County for a reported gas leak.

Lane closure planned on Wilkes-Barre Blvd.

WILKES-BARRE, LUZERNE COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — Authorities announced a portion of a Wilkes-Barre road will be closed starting Monday for construction.

Wilkes-Barre City Mayor George Brown announced the right southbound lane of the Wilkes-Barre Boulevard between the North Cross Valley Expressway and the Center City Exit Ramp will be closed.

Officials say the road will be closed Monday, December 2, from 7:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. every day through the following week.

Magic 93 and Chacko's Family Bowling Center hosted their Breakfast and Bowling with Santa on Sunday.

Families enjoyed 93 minutes of bowling, a hearty breakfast, and some one-on-one time with the big guy himself.

The event drew 180 bowlers, taking over 35 lanes.

DALLAS, LUZERNE COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — Northeastern Pennsylvania businesses are cashing in on this busy shopping weekend.

The craft store, Back Mountain Makery, hosted its Second Annual Small Business Weekend.

Six local vendors set up shop inside, offering candles, jewelry, and holiday treats.

Shoppers also enjoyed hot cocoa and coffee from Cozy Cocoa.

Luzerne County auto business puts up annual Christmas tree

The Makery features products from 85 local artists all year.

This event gave small businesses a chance to connect with the community.
