HARRISBURG — Democratic lawmakers in the Pennsylvania House reignited efforts to legalize marijuana for recreational use.

COVID's rampage through the country’s nursing homes killed more than 172,000 residents and spurred the biggest industry reform in decades: a mandate that homes employ a minimum number of nurses. But with President-elect Donald Trump’s return to the White House, the industry is ramping up pressure to kill that requirement before it takes effect, leaving thousands of residents in homes too short-staffed to provide proper care.

(WBRE/WYOU) — The National Weather Service out of Mount Holly, New Jersey has issued snow squall warnings in several eastern Pennsylvania counties.

Snow squall warnings have been issued for Carbon, Lehigh, and Monroe counties until 4:30 p.m.

"At 3:40 PM EST, a dangerous snow squall was located along a line extending from Flatbrookville to near Hometown, moving southeast at 25 mph," the alert noted of the Carbon County squall.

Alerts for snow showers, some heavy, have also been issued for multiple counties in northeastern Pennsylvania.

HAZLETON, LUZERNE COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — One man has been charged after a shooting took place in Hazleton.

According to the Hazleton City Police Department, on September 6, officers responded to a shooting on West 5th Street and North James Street.

Police say two unknown males approached a group of people in a car and opened fire.

During the investigation, police said they located and arrested the owner of the car fleeing the scene as 21-year-old Jeifry Del Rosario Del La Cruz, who is also the suspect in the shooting.

EYEWITNESS NEWS (WBRE/WYOU) — The race for the eighth congressional seat between Democrat Incumbent Matt Cartwright and Republican Rob Bresnahan was hard fought and closely watched across the country.

Bresnahan unseated Cartwright which helped the GOP maintain the majority in the House.
