DICKSON CITY, LACKAWANNA COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — Penn State's first time playing the College Football Playoffs means big business for local establishments.

Hundreds of Nittany Lions fans gathered Saturday afternoon at Happy Valley Sports Bar in Dickson City as Penn State hosted Southern Methodist University (SMU.)

Our 28/22 News Videographer Avery Nape described the atmosphere in the bar as "electric" as passionate Penn State fans worked up an appetite for food and beverages.

Crowds hitting Dickson City stores for Super Saturday

DICKSON CITY, LACKAWANNA COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — Big crowds are hitting local stores to start the weekend for one of the busiest shopping days of the holiday season.

Shoppers showed up on Saturday at places like the Viewmont Mall for what is known nationally as Super Saturday.

It's the nickname in the retail business given to the Saturday that falls just before Christmas.

Some shoppers got an early start Saturday morning to try and beat the crowd and check off items from their Christmas shopping list.

Keystone College challenges appeal to withdraw accreditation

LA PLUME, LACKAWANA COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU)— Keystone College has confirmed in a release that they have appealed the Middle States Commission on Higher Education (MSCHE) decision to remove their accreditation.

The Adverse Action took place November 21 when the MSCHE announced the possible withdrawal of accreditation from Keystone College effective December 31, 2024.

One man dead after a crash in Lycoming County

MUNCY CREEK TOWNSHIP, LYCOMING COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU)— One man has been confirmed dead after a crash along Route 405 on Thursday.

According to a Pennsylvania State Police press release, crews responded to the 10,000 block of PA-405 just before 3:00 p.m.

Former Scranton officer charged with rape of students

Police say that 38-year-old Robert Bryant of Shamokin after losing control of his car and rolling 40 feet down a embankment.

Troopers state that Bryant was traveling southbound along Route 405 when he lost control of the vehicle and died at the scene.
