Scranton Prep Galleria kicks off

SCRANTON, LACKAWANNA COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — You still have one more day to get in on all the fun happening at a local high school.

Scranton Prep kicked off its annual Galleria Saturday morning.

Raffle baskets and more than 75 vendors are featuring local crafts, boutiques, and even artisan chefs.

Admission is five dollars for adults and free for children under 12.

All proceeds go toward Scranton Prep scholarships. Some students were even outside collecting canned food and non-perishables.

50th anniversary of an alien mystery in Carbondale

CARBONDALE, LACKAWANNA COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — It is also a weekend to celebrate the 50th anniversary of an alien mystery in Lackawanna County.

Hundreds of people lined Main Street in Carbondale Saturday for the Inaugural Carbondalien Festival.

It marks the 50th anniversary of the urban legend dating back to the 1970s about a UFO crashing into a pond just outside of the city.

Besides more than 30 vendors and live music, the festival featured guest speakers from UFO investigators to big foot experts.

Bob Casey statement on updated Senate count

EYEWITNESS NEWS (WBRE/WYOU)— The Casey campaign released a statement regarding the ongoing vote count for the Pennsylvania Senate Race on Saturday morning.

The AP has called the race in favor of McCormick meaning they do not think there is a plausible chance that Casey can win the race with the remaining votes left to count.

This does not mean the state race is officially over unless the state certifies the results, or the Casey campaign concedes the election.

Trooper stabbed in head with pen, Pike County man in custody

GREENE TOWNSHIP, PIKE COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU)— Pennsylvania State Police are investigating an alleged assault on a trooper that occurred Saturday morning.

According to a PSP release, a Blooming Grove Patrol Trooper performed a traffic stop on 47-year-old Scott Swisher from Tafton, PA for an equipment violation.

Pennsylvania State Police investigating attempted homicide

WOODWARD TOWNSHIP, LYCOMING COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU)— Pennsylvania State Police are investigating an attempted homicide that occurred late Friday night that left one person injured and another in custody.

State police have arrested 28-year-old Tyler Whyte from Williamsport after he allegedly shot 33-year-old Shawn Shipton also from Williamsport.

According a PSP release, troopers were called to Wither Hollow Lane for an altercation.
