TSA intercepts loaded handgun at Avoca airport

AVOCA, LUZERNE COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — Officers at the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton International Airport intercepted a nine-millimeter loaded handgun on Friday.

Transportation Security Administration (TSA) officers found the gun with 11 bullets at the airport checkpoint during an X-ray of a carry-on bag that belonged to a Honesdale resident.

They will now face a fine.

The TSA says civil penalties for carrying weapons can reach a maximum of $15,000.

Chili's 'The Office' themed location opens in Dickson City

DICKSON CITY, LACKAWANNA COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — How does a triple-dipper and some TV nostalgia sound? Chili's opened a new restaurant in Dickson City featuring several references to The Office.

Chili's was featured in many episodes of The Office and was a favorite of Steve Carell's character, Michael Scott.

Guests can enjoy vintage artwork, Chili's iconic tile tables, and new food.

The awesome blossom is a deep-fried onion served with Chili's buffalo ranch dipping sauce. The item was removed from the menus in 2008 and is only available at this branch.

Non-profit holds Easter Egg Hunt in Plains Township for kids with special needs

PLAINS TOWNSHIP, LUZERNE COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — Kids with special needs got into the Easter Spirit with an annual Easter Egg Hunt specifically designed for them.

Non-profit Brighter Journeys hosted a Fun Day for thousands of kids who can sometimes be left behind in group activities.

The annual event gives them a chance to move at their own pace and feel comfortable, without being overwhelmed.

The planning for the annual hunt starts in January when volunteers begin stuffing thousands of eggs with fun prizes.

Four-year-old Ella Dinelli likes books and likes to help people, so it only makes sense that a bookstore is where the Berwick girl provided the most help of all.

Exterminator brought in after bedbugs found in Carbondale school

CARBONDALE, LACKAWANNA COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — A local school was thoroughly cleaned after bed bug concerns.

The Carbondale Area Superintendent says over the weekend, an exterminator was brought in to clean an entire section of the building, after two bed bugs were found in a classroom.

The principal says students who were in the affected classroom were moved, and their families were notified.

Luzerne County residents voice concerns over power line project

The school did contact the Department of Health.
