PMVB, United Way host housing summit to discuss housing crisis

POCONO SUMMIT, MONROE COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — It's an innovative approach to addressing a longstanding problem. On Wednesday, the Pocono Mountains Visitors Bureau (PMVB) and the Pocono Mountains United Way hosted More Front Doors: the Pocono Housing Summit.

More Front Doors aims to bring people together to discuss the ongoing housing crisis.

Governer Shapiro highlights economic growth in Hazleton

HAZLETON, LUZERNE COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — Pennsylvania Governor Josh Shapiro made a stop in northeast Pennsylvania on Wednesday to highlight economic growth.

Santa Claus makes stop in Wilkes-Barre to encourage car safety

WILKES-BARRE, LUZERNE COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — Santa Claus was at the Wilkes-Barre Fire Department earlier Wednesday to encourage car seat safety for the little ones.

The event, organized by the NEPA CPS Taskforce, brought in Santa to hand out goodie bags to kids and, more importantly, check car seats to ensure kids' safety ahead of holiday travel.

33% property tax hike approved in Lackawanna County for 2025

SCRANTON, LACKAWANNA COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — It's the decision many in Lackawanna County were hoping they wouldn't have to face: The 2025 budget includes a double-digit tax increase. The large hike was finalized on Wednesday.

Those in favor of the plan say it's an unfortunate but necessary step forward.

The new tax hike in Lackawanna County is 33%.

County commissioners who approved it say it's the first step in turning the financial condition of the county around.
