Scranton City Council votes no to historic building demolition

SCRANTON, LACKAWANNA COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — On Tuesday, Scranton City Council voted no to demolishing a historic building in Lackawanna County.

The council voted against the demolition of the Carriage House located on Moir Court.

The building is owned by the University of Scranton.

Board officials say the reason they voted against the demo was because of the historical significance the building has in the area.

Efforts to reduce West Nile threats underway in Schuylkill County

POTTSVILLE, SCHUYLKILL COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — Efforts are underway to reduce the West Nile threat in our region.

Last year, mosquitoes testing positive for West Nile popped up all over northeastern Pennsylvania.

One local county has started its prevention early with its trap and test method.

Schuylkill County got a jump on their West Nile virus testing, beginning their trapping process on Monday.

Luzerne County DA speaks on body found in Pittston Township

PITTSTON TOWNSHIP, LUZERNE COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — We are learning more about the police investigation into the discovery of a body in Luzerne County, the body of a man was found behind a car dealership.

28/22 News Reporter Jason LiVecchi was on the scene as detectives searched for evidence.

"At about approximately 2:30 this afternoon, the Pittston Township Police Department and Chief Lena Angelo were called because a body was discovered behind the car dealership in Pittston Township," Luzerne County District Attorney Samuel M. Sanguedolce said.

Update on potential Keystone College closure

LA PLUME, LACKAWANNA COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — There's a new update on the future of Keystone College.

28/22 News told you recently the private college in Lackawanna County is putting a plan together for its students in case of a potential closure.

College president John Pullo said they are working with an investment partner to secure an agreement for the college and they are continuing to work on a "teach-out" plan to protect students.

He encouraged students and staff to remain optimistic for the future.

PSP: 19 Guns, 3 vehicles stolen from Monroe County home

SMITHFIELD TOWNSHIP, MONROE COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — The Pennsylvania State Police are investigating an incident in Smithfield Township where multiple guns and vehicles were taken in a reported burglary.

On April 30, PSP sent out a release explaining troopers were called on April 19 to the area of Orchard Road and Marshalls Creek Road at around 6:00 p.m. for a reported burglary.

Body found on Route 315 Pittston Township

State troopers say 19 firearms and three vehicles were reported stolen from the property.
