Painter's abstract work to be displayed at Art Academy of Milton

MILTON — Art Academy of Milton welcomes abstract painter Robert Haynes as he returns to Pennsylvania with “Existenc3”: a three-part series tackling the delicate and fleeting nature of life on our planet, and even in our universe. The artist will be in attendance for the opening reception on Saturday from 3 to 6 p.m.

Two arrested, crystal meth, fentanyl seized in drug raid

CARBONDALE, LACKAWANNA COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — Two people were arrested after police say a K9 unit helped seized fentanyl, meth, and other narcotics during a drug raid.

According to the Carbondale Police Department, two people, Kenneth Urian and Bailee Bloxham, were arrested on felony possession with intent to distribute crystal methamphetamine, and related charges in Carbondale.

EYEWITNESS NEWS (WBRE/WYOU) — With the abundance of mine-related incidents recently between mine subsidence stress fractures in Toby Creek and a sinkhole opening up in Swoyersville, many area residents and business owners can't help but wonder if their property sits on top of a mine.

Penn State University's website has an interactive map that shows users where area mines are located. Visit the interactive map online, then in the upper right-hand corner check the “Mine Maps Index” box that will bring up purple lines indicating the exact location of the mines underground.

Kirby Ave. railroad crossing to be repaired

LUZERNE COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — State Representative Alec Ryncavage has announced the permanent repair at the Kirby Avenue Railroad Crossing.

According to the release, State Rep. Ryncavage announced he engaged with the Reading Railroad Government Affairs office to expedite the repair process for the Reading Railroad crossing at Kirby Avenue.

"The intersection at Kirby Avenue has been a source of frustration and safety concerns for residents and commuters due to its deteriorating condition," said Ryncavage.

Wilkes-Barre CTC student arrested, allegedly found with gun

PLAINS TWP., LUZERNE COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — Officials report a student of Wilkes-Barre Area Career and Technical Center was arrested after being found with a gun on school property.

Dr. Anthony Guariglia, Director of Wilkes-Barre Area Career and Technical Center (CTC) tells 28/22 News a student was found with a gun while entering the school Wednesday morning.

Dr.Guariglia said around 8:00 a.m. students were entering Wilkes-Barre CTC through metal detectors when the machine beeped for one male student.

Crews work to fill mine void in Luzerne County

LUZERNE COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — Work continues Wednesday night on filling a mine void that opened in a Luzerne County creek last weekend.

Now, questions are being raised if that mine subsidence is connected to other events.

28/22 News was on Northampton Street in Kingston where water has been bubbling to the surface since Tuesday and it is still unknown if this event and others are related to the mine subsidence at Toby Creek.

The I-Team spoke with a mining expert today who says all bets are off when it comes to underground mines.

Two charged after shooting near Scranton Preparatory School

SCRANTON, LACKAWANNA COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — Police say an argument between two people led to a shooting Monday evening near Scranton Preparatory School.

According to the Scranton Police Department, on Monday around 7:00 p.m., officers were handling an unrelated incident when they heard a man arguing with someone on the 1000 block of Capouse Avenue.

Police said they heard one gunshot and saw a Honda seen leaving the area. Officers began to investigate the scene and found one single casing on the front porch of a home.

Two injured in Northumberland County shooting

MILTON, NORTHUMBERLAND COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — Police are investigating a shooting that left two people injured in Northumberland County.

According to the Milton Borough Police Department, on April 16 around 4:00 p.m., officers were called to the ten block of Broadway for a reported shooting.

Two people were found injured as a result of the shooting and both were treated at Geisinger Medical Center, police stated.
