Several businesses cited for liquor control infractions

EYEWITNESS NEWS (WBRE/WYOU) — Several establishments in northeast and central PA have been charged after liquor control operations were performed in multiple counties.

The Pennsylvania State Police Bureau of Liquor Control Enforcement (LCE) released details Thursday on the recently performed compliance checks.

Counties included in this enforcement report are Clinton, Northumberland, and Snyder.

Police say the following businesses were cited by LCE in January 2024:

PA Courts to payout $100K in discrimination compensation

SCRANTON, LACKAWANNA COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU)— The Unified Judicial System (UJS) of Pennsylvania has settled a lawsuit to pay out $100,000 to victims who were subjected to discriminatory policies and practices.

According to U.S. Attorney Gerard M. Karam, the lawsuit was brought forward by the United States under the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA). This case was filed against courts in Blair, Jefferson, Lackawanna, and Northumberland County Courts of Common Pleas.

Farming accident claims life of Montour County teen

RUSH TOWNSHIP, NORTHUMBERLAND COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU)— Pennsylvania State Police say a teenager has died due to a farming accident in Northumberland County.

State police said they were called to Bowden Road in Rush Township to assist Geisinger EMS and the Northumberland County Coroner's Office with the report of an unconscious teen.

One dead after tractor accident in Columbia county

First responders said a 16-year-old male from Danville was on a farm tractor when it rolled over in one of the fields sometime between 7:00 a.m. and 9:30 a.m. Saturday morning.

Driver accused of stealing car by crashing through dealership

MUNCY TOWNSHIP, NORTHUMBERLAND COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU)— Police have a man in custody they say stole a 2024 BMW M2 by crashing it through the dealership.

Around 1:00 p.m. Friday afternoon, police say they were called to the BMW dealership at 205 Lycoming Mall Drive, Muncy Township, for a man who stole a $78,470 car from inside the dealership by driving it through the glass walls of the building.

Two charged with holding man hostage, threatening to kill family

SHAMOKIN, NORTHUMBERLAND COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — Two men have been accused of holding a confidential informant hostage and threatening to kill the CI's family during a controlled purchase of drugs.

According to the Mount Carmel Borough Police Department, on January 20, three people, Anthony Wetzel, 34, Charles Troup III, 30, and an unnamed 16-year-old, picked up a confidential informant (CI) at 4:00 a.m. to take them to Wetzel’s home.

City loses $49,800 in police overtime for failure to provide paperwork

SUNBURY — Nearly $50,000 was lost in drug task force reimbursement overtime for police after it was discovered the Sunbury Police Department did not turn in the proper paperwork to the Northumberland County District Attorney’s Office, according to officials.

Parents charged with child abuse of a 6-month-old

SHAMOKIN, NORTHUMBERLAND COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — Parents charged after their six-month-old baby arrives at the hospital with several injuries.

Police say on December 31, 2023 officers received a call for a possible child abuse case of a six-month-old baby.

Court documents stated the parents of the child, 23-year-old Marcus Akers, and 20-year-old Emiyaah Blakely, have been charged after their child arrived at the hospital with the following injuries:

Broken collar bone

Subcongenital hemorrhage to the eye

Torn frenulum

Man allegedly shoots man, dog with BB gun

MOUNT CARMEL, NORTHUMBERLAND COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — One man is in custody after he allegedly shot a man and his dog with an AR15-style BB gun.

Police say on January 12 around 2:07 p.m., officers were dispatched to a home on South Chestnut Street for a male shot by a BB gun.

According to police, 21-year-old Gary Bakley shot the victim's dog after the dog jumped over the fence and when the owner confronted Bakley about it, he shot him with an AR15-style BB gun.
