Water pump issue closes McDade Park Splash Pad, swimming pool

SCRANTON, LACKAWANNA COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — The watery fun is on hold in this heat at a local park. Lackawanna County announced on its Facebook page that the McDade Park Splash Pad is temporarily closed.

The reason: An issue with the water pump.

There is no word on how soon the problem will be fixed.

The swimming pool at McDade Park is also closed.

Its planned opening last month was delayed because of several leaks, and its opening this summer is very much in doubt.

KULPMONT, NORTHUMBERLAND COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — Officials say a child was sent to the hospital Saturday night after a fireworks-related incident in Northumberland County.

Authorities told 28/22 News crews were called to Ash Street in Kulpmont for a fireworks-related injury just after 6:30 p.m.

Officials confirmed that one juvenile was taken to the Geisinger Care Center for treatment of injuries.

The status of the injured juvenile is unknown at this time.

Crews battling house and garage fire

UPPER AUGUSTA TOWNSHIP, NORTHUMBERLAND COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU)— Crews are battling a fire that started Friday afternoon in Northumberland County.

According to the Northumberland County Communications Center, crews were called to the 200 block of Pontius Avenue around 3:00 p.m. for a garage fire that was spreading to the house.

KULPMONT, NORTHUMBERLAND COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU)— An emotional ceremony in NEPA today remembering the lives lost during the Vietnam War and the September 11 attacks.

58,311, that's how many names are listed on the Vietnam War Memorial in Washington D.C. and how many names are listed on the Vietnam traveling wall.

Each name represents a life cut short, including 22 from Northumberland County.

On July 4, hundreds of people remembered those lives in Kulpmont.

Multiple juveniles charged after healthcare center robbery

SHAMOKIN, NORTHUMBERLAND COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — Police say they have charged multiple juveniles after a health care center was robbed and vandalized.

According to the Shamokin Police Department, on July 3, around 8:00 a.m., officers were called to Community Health Care in the 500 block of West Walnut Street for a burglary report.

Two dead, shooting investigation underway

Once on the scene, officers said there was damage to the front door, multiple items thrown and damaged around the building, walls were spray-painted, and fire extinguishers were set off inside.

Man accused of burying dead infant in backyard

MILTON, NORTHUMBERLAND COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — A man is facing charges after police say he buried a dead newborn in a backyard.

According to the Milton Borough Police Department, an investigation began on July 1 after it was discovered that a dead infant was buried in a backyard at a residence on Center Street in Milton.

Through further investigation, it was learned that 29-year-old Donan Maradiage-Orellana discovered the deceased infant in the closet of a 14-year-old girl who lived at the residence.
