Police: Man Used Girlfriend’s Young Daughters to Sell Marijuana for Him

MILTON, Pa. -- Police in Northumberland County say a man used his girlfriend's children to sell drugs.
Craig Lytle of Milton is facing a slew of charges after police say he used his girlfriend's daughters to sell marijuana. The girls involved are 15 and 13 years old.
Parents tell Newswatch 16 they're happy the police were able to put this operation to an end. Parents hope the girls, who police are calling victims in this case, can recover.

Woman Wanted After Stabbing Another Woman During Brawl in Shamokin

SHAMOKIN, Pa. -- A woman is wanted in Northumberland County on attempted homicide charges after a brawl involving several people.
Summer Dickson, 18, is accused of stabbing another woman in the neck and face on Saturday in Shamokin.
The fight involved all kinds of weapons including baseball bats and a shovel.
Officers say a half dozen adults were involved.
Tyasia Brags and two others were arrested on Friday.
Police in Shamokin are still looking for Dickson and two others.

Increased Security at Shamokin Area Middle/High School

COAL TOWNSHIP, Pa. -- Two threats in one week at a high school in Northumberland County have led to an increase in security.
According to Coal Township police, there were threats two weeks in a row at Shamokin Area Middle/High School.
Nothing was found, but the district is enforcing additional security measures to prevent more incidents.
Around 9 a.m. Thursday, what police call a "low-level threat" was found written on a bathroom wall at Shamokin Area Middle/High School.

Fire Destroys Row Home, Damages Two Others in Northumberland County

COAL TOWNSHIP, Pa. -- A home is destroyed and two others badly damaged by a fire in Northumberland County.
The blaze at the home along West Water Street in Coal Township started just after 7 p.m.
Two adjoining row homes were badly damaged with smoke and water.
About two dozen fire companies responded Thursday night to fight the flames.
When Gloria Bowers saw the orange flash outside the window of her West Water Street home in Coal Township Thursday night, she panicked. The rowhome next to her property was on fire.

Social Media Posts Lead to Uproar Over Cemetery

SHAMOKIN TOWNSHIP, Pa. – A cemetery in Northumberland County found itself on the receiving end of social media backlash.
The Northumberland Memorial Park Cemetery near Sunbury is a big place. There have been more than 100 burials this past winter at the 35-acre cemetery.
Owner Jim Houck says this is the time of year when the maintenance team gets the cemetery ready for busy Memorial Day Weekend.
"We have a window that we clean the cemetery up to get ready for all that work yet to come," Houck said.

Students Plan Outdoor Classroom to Remember Teacher

JACKSON TOWNSHIP, Pa. -- Students at a school in Northumberland County are honoring the memory of a teacher who passed away last year.
There are a lot of classrooms at Line Mountain High School near Herndon, and they are all pretty similar. But soon, students will be learning in a different environment: an outdoor classroom.
"You don't have to be cooped up in a classroom all day, and you can just get out in the fresh air and in a new learning environment," said seventh grader Katie Heim.

Man Charged After Firing Gun in Milton

MILTON, Pa. -- A man is facing multiple charges including a felony riot charge in Northumberland County.
Police say Rafael Mora-Kuilan was arrested just after 2 a.m. Sunday when police saw him fire a gun while with a group of people in the area of Broadway Street and Long Alley in Milton.
No one was hurt.
Police say the gun Mora-Kuilan had on him was reported stolen.
He's charged with receiving stolen property, felony riot, and other charges in Northumberland County.

Woman Stabbed During Brawl in Shamokin

SHAMOKIN, Pa. -- A big fight in Shamokin involved all sorts of weapons and ended with a stabbing and a half-dozen arrests, according to police.
Police say that stabbing victim is a 35-year-old woman. Investigators say she was stabbed multiple times after that fight broke out on the corner of South 5th and West Mulberry streets in Shamokin around 4:30 p.m. Saturday.
Police confirm to Newswatch 16 that more than 15 people were involved in the fight, and baseball bats were used as weapons.

Upcoming Detour in Northumberland

NORTHUMBERLAND, Pa. -- The headaches continue for drivers in Northumberland. Another detour is set to begin as part of the borough's Duke Street Project.
As part of PennDOT's $14 million Duke Street Project, Queen Street will close starting Monday between Second and Water Streets.
The Millie Boutique and Jewelry Bar recently moved to its new location on Queen Street in Northumberland. Owner Crystal Reed says the reason for that was better visibility. But now, this section of Queen Street is set to close for the next four months.

Diocese and Former Teacher Face Off in Court

SUNBURY, Pa. -- A teacher fired from a private, Roman Catholic school because she got pregnant out of wedlock wants her job back.
Members of the Diocese of Harrisburg were in Northumberland County Court on Friday defending their decision.
There was more than two hours of testimony, most of that coming from members of the Diocese of Harrisburg.
Former Our Lady of Lourdes teacher Naiad Reich is trying to get her job back. The diocese is fighting against that.
