Second Person Dead After Wreck on I-80 in Northumberland County

NORTHUMBERLAND COUNTY, Pa. -- A second person has died after a crash on Interstate 80 in Northumberland County.
The Montour County Coroner tells Newswatch 16 Katherine Malon from Fallentimber passed away Thursday morning at Geisinger near Danville.
Another driver died at the scene of Tuesday's multi-vehicle pile up on I-80 West near Milton.
State police say heavy rains are to blame for the wreck in central Pennsylvania.

Road Closed Due to Tractor-Trailer Rollover

MUNCY CREEK TOWNSHIP, Pa. – Part of Route 54 is closed near the Lycoming and Northumberland county line due to a tractor-trailer rollover.
It happened around 8:30 a.m. Thursday near Montgomery.

UPDATE: Interstate 80 Back Open After Deadly Pile-up in Northumberland County

NORTHUMBERLAND COUNTY, Pa. -- One man is dead after an eight-car pile-up on Interstate 80 near Milton that closed part of the highway for hours.
State police say initially, two cars and a tractor-trailer crashed in the eastbound lanes because of heavy rain around 1:30 p.m. Tuesday. Minutes later, four more tractor-trailers and a truck crashed in the westbound lanes. Earl McCormick, 74, of Berwick, died in that second crash.

Man Accused of Raping 9-year-old Girl

SUNBURY, Pa. — Rape charges have been filed against a man from Northumberland County.
Jose Figueroa-Cante, 34, of Sunbury, is accused of abusing a 9-year-old girl over the past two years.
According to police, the victim said Figueroa-Cante “shook her like a doll” and threatened to hurt her mother if she said anything.
Figueroa-Cante was charged with rape, statutory sexual assault, sexual assault, and aggravated indecent assault. He is locked up in the Northumberland County jail.

Caregiver Accused of Trying to Kill Couple with Cigarettes Laced with Rat Poison

WEST CHILLISQUAQUE TOWNSHIP, Pa. -- A caregiver in Northumberland County is locked up on attempted murder charges after state police say she tried to kill an elderly couple with rat poison.
Tina Young, 37, of Montandon, admitted to police she put the poison in the couple's cigarettes after the wife discovered she stole money from them.

Man Hit, Killed by Train in Northumberland County

UPPER AUGUSTA TOWNSHIP, Pa. -- A man was killed after being hit by a train in Northumberland County.
It happened just south of Sunbury in Upper Augusta Township around 4 p.m. Sunday.
The coroner says the man who was hit has not yet been identified, but he is believed to be in his 40s or 50s. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
State police are investigating the deadly train crash.

Shamokin Woman Accused of Punching Judge After Crash

SHAMOKIN, Pa. — A woman from Shamokin is accused of punching a judge in the face after the two were involved in a crash.
District Judge John Gembic tells Newswatch 16 his truck was hit at 9th and Independence streets in Shamokin around 10 p.m. Saturday.
The other driver was identified as Kim Dornsife, 41, of Shamokin.
Gembic told officers he took the keys from her vehicle after the crash because he believed she was intoxicated. That’s when she allegedly punched him.
Dornsife was taken for a blood test and faces assault charges.

Lady Red AAU Team From Northumberland County Heads To Maryland for Jr NBA Global Championships

Based out of Mount Camel Jay Yuskoski runs the Lady Red AAU program. His 2019 team consisting of 8th graders from Central Columbia, Mount Carmel, Bloomsburg, Danville, Southern Columbia, Weatherly and Jim Thorpe have won tournaments up and down the east coast including the Philly hardwood classic, The battle of the Big Apple in the Bronx NY, The Northeast regional showcase in New Jersey and The East Coast Championship at Spooky Nook.

Senior Citizens Day at Knoebels

KNOEBELS AMUSEMENT RESORT -- More than 1,000 seniors were at Knoebels Amusement Resort on Wednesday for the park's 50th annual Senior Citizens Day.
"We get on the rides and do the things we want to do, too," said Anita Brown of Ephrata. "We were on the whip and the boats.
Senior Citizens Day started in 1969 as a way to recognize the 55 and older crowd.
"They get coffee and donuts for free. They also get a free train ride, a free ride on the carousel, a discount in any of the gift shops," said Knoebels official Leanna Muscato.

Part of Route 147 to Close Overnight Throughout the Week in Northumberland County

POINT TOWNSHIP, Pa. -- Part of Route 147 in Northumberland County is scheduled to close overnight.
PennDOT says crews will be placing the first steel girders on the east side of the nearly mile-long Central Susquehanna Valley Thruway Bridge.
A section of Route 147 north of Northumberland is scheduled to close from 8 p.m. until 6 a.m. through Thursday night.
