Fire damages chimney manufacturing plant in Lackawanna County

SCRANTON, LACKAWANNA COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — Firefighters were called to a chimney manufacturing plant Thursday night in Scranton.

According to officials the call came in around 7:15 p.m. for a reported fire at 600 Sanders Avenue, the site of Olympia Chimney Supplies.

According to the Scranton Fire Department Deputy Chief Dan Hallowich, the building was being evacuated when crews arrived on the scene.

It is unclear how many people were in the building at the time of the fire.

CATAWISSA, COLUMBIA COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU)— A Columbia County meat market was destroyed by fire Wednesday afternoon.

According to the Catawissa Assistant Fire Chief, first responders were called to the scene just after 2:30 p.m. this afternoon for reports of a fire.

When firefighters arrived on the scene, they say a barn was fully engulfed in flames.

Business closed temporarily in Lackawanna County

The business was home to a butcher shop that recently just started processing maple syrup to be sold at stores.

Arrest made after man allegedly assaults co-worker with metal pipe

BERWICK, COLUMBIA COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — An arrest has been made after police say a man assaulted his co-worker with a metal pipe.

According to the Berwick Police Department, on October 20 officers were called about an assault at AFC Industries on Poplar Street in Berwick.

Berwick Theater one step closer to reopening

BERWICK, COLUMBIA COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU)— Bringing life to the community through arts and entertainment, that's been the goal of the historic Berwick Theater for over a century. Now undergoing repairs, they have a call out for donations so they can reopen to the public.

The lights are on inside the Berwick Theater and Center for Community Arts, but instead of people filling the seats, there's caution tape and power tools.

The theater has been closed for more than a year, undergoing a necessary roof replacement and now repairs to its ceiling.

Rolling roadblocks on I-80 in Columbia County

COLUMBIA COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation announced road closure in Columbia County.

According to PennDOT drivers who are traveling on Interstate 80 westbound and eastbound are advised that rolling roadblocks and a ramp closure will be closed Thursday.

Ramp closure will take place on February 15 at 2:00 p.m. Interstate 80 westbound on-ramp from Route 487 will be closed while PPL performs necessary electrical work in the area.

Woman dead after multi-vehicle crash in Montour Township

MONTOUR TWP, COLUMBIA COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — A woman is dead after a crash in Columbia County Friday afternoon.

28/22 News recently reported a multi-vehicle crash shut down Route 11 in Montour Township.

According to the Columbia County Coroner's Office 68-year-old Linda Mowery is dead after a crash in Montour Township.

Lancaster Co. man captured in Pittston Twp. faces murder charges

Officials say Mowery was traveling North on Montour Boulevard (Route 11) when a car traveling South on Route 11 collided with her vehicle.

Route 11 in Columbia County reopens after crash

MONTOUR TWP., COLUMBIA COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — PennDOT reported a multi-vehicle crash shut down Route 11 in Columbia County Friday afternoon.

PennDOT reports Route 11 between Route 4002 (Grovania Drive) and Valley Road in Montour Township was closed.

U.S. Marshals capture Hazleton homicide suspect

PennDOT officials reported around 7:30 p.m. that Route 11 between Route 4002 (Grovania Drive) and Valley Road in Montour Township has now reopened.

Drivers can check current road conditions by visiting 511PA.

Officials called to battle Briar Creek fire

BRIAR CREEK, COLUMBIA COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — Crews were called Thursday afternoon to battle flames in a reported structure fire in Briar Creek.

At about 5:20 p.m., authorities reported crews were called to Red Rock Road for a reported structure fire.

Officials say there are no reported injuries at this time.
