Concerns remain on ‘forever chemicals’ found in private well water

BLOOMSBURG, COLUMBIA COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — An update on contaminated water in Columbia County: 28/22 News first reported about "Forever Chemicals" detected in private well water in March.

The water has contained dangerous levels of PFAS for a long period of time and residents in the area are still waiting for action to be taken.

In March, nearly half of the private wells the Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) sampled between Bloomsburg and Berwick were detected for high levels of pfas.

Lane restrictions scheduled for I-81 Tuesday

LACKAWANNA COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — PennDOT announced there will be a lane restriction on Interstate 81 southbound for most of the day on Tuesday.

On Tuesday, May 6, from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., I-81 southbound will be restricted from Exit 184 (River Street) to Exit 182 B (Davis Street) for a bridge inspection.

Pennsylvania primary election deadlines approaching

SCRANTON, LACKAWANNA COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — The clock is ticking to register for the upcoming primary election in Pennsylvania.

Monday is the final day to become eligible to vote if you have not already registered.

This month's election is a closed primary, so only Republicans and Democrats can cast votes for their respective parties.

Mail-in ballot applications are due no later than Tuesday, May 13, at 5:00 p.m.

MIFFLIN TOWNSHIP, COLUMBIA COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — Pennsylvania State Police (PSP) say three people were sent to nearby hospitals after a four-vehicle crash in Columbia County.

Officials say that crews were called to mile marker 245 of Interstate 80 Westbound in Mifflin Township for a reported four-vehicle crash involving a tractor-trailer.

In a release, troopers explained that the tractor-trailer was driving West on Interstate 80 in the right lane while a Toyota RAV4, a Mini Clubman, and a Subaru were stopped ahead of the tractor-trailer due to traffic congestion.

Man convicted of selling deadly dose of fentanyl

BLOOMSBURG, COLUMBIA COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — A man has been convicted after police say a group of four people unknowingly purchased fentanyl from him, resulting in another man's death.

The U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Middle District of Pennsylvania announced that 28-year-old Tysheem Dunlap, of Williamsport, was convicted of drug delivery resulting in death after a four-day jury trial.

Marching band fundraising for Pearl Harbor parade performance

BLOOMSBURG, COLUMBIA COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — A local high school marching band needs help to take part in a once-in-a-lifetime performance, all the way in Hawaii.

Practice makes perfect for the Bloomsburg High School Marching Band.

“Late night rehearsals, we have band camp which is two weeks on the field just in the hot sun. Even just practicing for the concert band takes so much time,” says Ramona Miron.
